Roquette America’s manufacturing facility in Gurnee, Illinois, produces polyols used in numerous applications, such as pharmaceuticals, food, confections and oral care products.

Job Description

Position Description

This position works in the Hydrogen department of the Gurnee plant and performs day-to-day activities that include adjusting plant control variables and monitoring and managing process equipment parameters to meet production goals while working a rotating shift.   Operators also perform start-up and shutdown activities, conduct rounds, readings and daily production reports as well as accept responsibility to be proactive and innovative in solutions to ensure an efficient operation and safe work environment. This position is an 8 hour rotating shift.

Duties include (but are not limited to) the following:

·  Comply and protects safety requirements, the environment and product quality in all situations
·  Participates in Process Safety Management (PSM)
·  Remotely operates process via Foxboro DCS 
·  Conducts routine tours and inspections of process equipment in the field
·  Manually manipulates equipment and performs other manual operations as required (e.g. Adds, handles and drums catalyst, operates manual valves, adds calcium carbonate, etc…)
·  Draws and analyzes process samples as needed or requested 
·  Works closely with other employees and contractors
·  Communicates effectively, both written and verbal, with other employees, contractors and outside personnel
·  Works with maintenance employees, contractors and outside personnel to complete equipment maintenance, repairs and modifications
·  Maintains a clean work place and process
·  Performs assigned computer functions
·  Safely lifts tools, parts, product and equipment, using others or mechanical means as needed to ensure a safe lift.
·  Analyzes process indications (physical and electronic) and trends to troubleshoot process issues and out-of-range control variables
·  Maintains process logs and log book, electronic and manual
·  Operates several unit operations and evolutions at one time, multi-tasking effectively
·  Operates with varying levels of supervision
·  Carries out work plan and housekeeping schedule as defined in verbal instructions, written Team Leader notes and master cleaning schedule.
·  Monitors and controls usage of various process chemicals and consumables (e.g. nickel catalyst, NaOH),

Qualifications

·  High school diploma or equivalent
·  Ability to ascend and descend stairs up to 2 stories
·  Work in hot and humid inside environment
·  Ability to push, pull and lift 50 pounds
·  Physically able to wear and work in a dust mask and full-face respirator
·  Commonly works in high heat for 30 minutes at a time, sometimes longer.
·  Works with hot liquid and steam systems, and around hot piping.
·  Occasionally works outside for 60 minutes at a time, sometimes longer, in all seasons.
·  Spends extended time monitoring a series of computers.
·  Operates processes that are unique technology to Roquette in a highly competitive environment.  Disclosure of this process information could cause substantial harm to Roquette’s competitive position.
