The Food Application Technician will be responsible for laboratory and pilot support to food scientists. A successful candidate will be required to have demonstrated capability to run food application pilot and lab equipment. Excellent communications skills, team spirits and the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment including sales and marketing, both internal and external to Roquette, are required. Regular direct customer interaction and overnight travel (up to 10%) can be expected throughout the Americas region.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities
•Run pilot and laboratory equipment including extruder, dairy and beverage processors, as well as analytical instrumentation including texturizer, viscometer and particle analyzer.
•Conduct experiments to prepare food application recipes and prototypes
•Write experimental reports and present results in scientific approach
•Contribute to a safe and environmentally friendly work place

·  Collaborate with Application Scientists in generating new ideas and approaches – formula and process
·  Assist with modifying and/or improving existing formulas and processes
·  Assist with trial planning and execution – lab and pilot scale
·  Ensure strict food hygiene standards are in place and met in day to day operations
·  Assist in facilitation of in-house and contracted sensory testing, including management of sensory panel samples and standards; and set up, clean up, and support sensory evaluation meetings
·  Coordinate organization, storage of equipment/materials and cleanup of facilities
·  Perform various administrative duties, such as sample management, data entry, and shipping
·  Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
·  Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures and Safety Best Practices consistently
·  Working with contractors to develop solutions to equipment issues, while maintaining safety and minimizing delays in trial execution

Profile

Qualifications
•B.S. in Food Science, Engineering, Chemistry or equivalent
•1-2 years of hands on experiments in operating food application lab and pilot equipment
•Knowledge of food application formulation
•Capable to coordinate and execute cross functional projects.
•Demonstrates strong internal and external, verbal and written communication skills.
•Demonstrates outstanding interpersonal and team work skills at all levels and with customer organizations

·  Meticulous attention to detail – formulas, processes, safety, data compilation and analysis
·  Strong analytical and mathematical skills
·  Basic Food Science skills
·  Strong mechanical skills – capable of troubleshooting equipment
·  Basic understanding of statistical and sensory principals – and able to apply in project situations
