Roche Sequencing Solutions, Santa Clara, is a fast-moving, highly-technical team with the ambitious goal of disrupting Next-Generation DNA Sequencing. Developing this unique platform requires expertise across a range of fields: FPGA Design, Software Engineering, Data Science, Information Theory, Biophysics, Biology, Chemistry, Circuit Design, and Electrochemistry, among others.

As a member of our Platform Development Team, you will have the opportunity to work with experts in each of these fields, focused on the common goal of bringing our sequencing platform to market.

ROLE SUMMARY:

The position of Systems Engineer II will be a multi-disciplinary, multi-functional role tasked with helping to develop our cutting-edge technology into a robust, reliable product. In this position you will have the opportunity to work hands-on with the instrument to troubleshoot and characterize the performance of a new hardware platform. You should enjoy learning about new technologies and techniques from a variety of disciplines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

·  Working within cross-functional teams to collect and understand requirements and constraints from different engineering domains
·  Developing and running tests to collect and analyze the performance of the instrument, and presenting results to a multidisciplinary audience
·  Troubleshooting, debugging, and developing solutions across all domains of the instrument, including PCB faults, embedded and control software, mechanical interfaces, and more
·  Helping to support development teams, internal users, and field deployments with findings
·  Contributing to generating and enhancing technical documentation, including specifications, technical reports, and procedures
·  Participating in system architecture definitions and development of future products
·  Optimizing performance of instrumentation used in next-generation sequencing for clinical IVD applications
·  Working within the context of design control SOPs and a quality management system

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

·  M.S. or B.S. degree in EE, ECE, or related field (BioE, ME, Physics, etc.) and 3–5+ years of work experience in a systems engineering role OR PhD. in EE, ECE or related field (BioE, ME, Physics, etc.) and 1+ year of work experience in a systems engineering role
·  Experience with standard electronics testing equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, etc.) and hands-on debugging/troubleshooting
·  Experience using Python, Perl, or similar scripting languages
·  Solid understanding of statistics
·  Proficiency with Linux basics
·  Exposure to embedded software development
·  Familiarity with C++, Java, or other object-oriented programing software development a plus
·  Exposure to digital logic design using Verilog or VHDL a plus
·  Experience with high-speed electronics design a plus
·  Experience with IVD product development a plus
·  Experience with verification of complex systems a plus
·  Formalized systems engineering training (SysML, INCOSE-based training, etc.) a plus
