The Summer @ Roche Intern Program has been developed to provide students with a fun yet rewarding summer through hands-on experience and numerous opportunities to network with other interns as well as employees in the organization. Additionally, we help our students meet their career development and educational goals while potentially building a future with the Roche organization. Job Description:

·  Design and evaluate point-of-carenucleic acid-based real-time PCR tests for infectious diseases.
·  Under direct supervision, the chosen intern will be responsible for executing laboratory experiments using established methods and materials to test product designs of nucleic acid-based real-time PCR tests for common pathogens in a Research lab setting.
·  The intern will learn sample preparation workflow and how to set up PCR reactions, use cobas® Liat (Lab in a tube) system and Roche LightCycler® 480 instrumentation, perform data analysis using proprietary software and document all laboratory work in electronic lab notebook (eLN).
·  All experiments will be performed in BSL-2 lab setting and will involve handling of biological specimens.

Additionally, the selected intern will be asked to participate in various intern activities, which may include workshops with leaders in the organization, our mentor program, and our Poster Symposium among other activities.

Qualifications

·  Biology or Related Major (Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Chemical Biology, Biophysics etc).
·  At least 3 years of college/university.
·  Familiarity with PCR, basic cell culture techniques.
·  Basic biology lab techniques, especially accurate use of micropipettes.
·  Minor in some more technical area like Computer Science, Physics, Statistics, Engineering, or Mathematics.

Program Requirements:

· 
Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university during program calendar year 2019

· 
Completed at least 2 years of college/university to be eligible for the program.

· 
Must have a ≥3.0 GPA

· 
Minimum availability of 12 weeks (Required start on or before program Welcome Reception and end date on or after Summer End Poser Symposium).

· 
Previous experience in the job duties listed, either through course work or industry/academia

· 
Participation in student organizations and/or other leadership experience

What You Will Learn:
