The Early Clinical Development Oncology (ECDO) group within Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) translates world-class science into medical innovation through a diversity of technologies and talents located across three research centers worldwide (Innovation Centers Basel, Munich, and Zurich). We deliver on individual patient needs through a deep understanding of disease biology and the implementation of Personalized Healthcare strategies.

Our Vision is to develop curative medicines for cancer patients. Our Mission is to transform pioneering scientific discoveries into effective medicines. pRED Oncology focuses on 2 key areas of expertise which are Cancer Immunotherapy and Molecularly Targeted Therapies.

The Medical Director (MD) is a core member of the Early Clinical Development Oncology organization. The MD leads the clinical strategy for one or multiple early oncology drug assets. He / She is the key medical expert on the Project Team and leads the Clinical Expert Team. The MD reports to an ECDO area lead.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

· 
supports target and clinical candidate selection, is accountable for the design and the clinical and scientific content of experimental medicine studies to evaluate and validate targets in the field of oncology

· 
develops a clinical development plan for one or more early stage molecule(s), allowing quick decision making regarding proof of mechanism

· 
has overall medical and scientific responsibility for one or several PhI-II studies

· 
works with the Biomarker Experimental Medicine Leader to develop biomarker strategies

· 
supports and coordinates development and writing of documents such as protocol, investigator's brochure, clinical study report, etc.

· 
proposes, establishes and leads external collaborations

· 
leads the Clinical Expert Team consisting of different functions supporting early clinical development

· 
confidently interprets and presents preclinical and clinical data to internal and external stakeholders

· 
assures GCP, Clinical Operating Guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures are followed, is responsible for safety management

· 
manages one or several clinical scientists

We are looking for these qualifications:

As the ideal candidate, you bring solid experience in clinical oncology and/or hematology and overall knowledge of the broad research and drug development process in oncology.

You are medically qualified (MD), ideally combined with a PhD. Experience in immunology – particularly cancer immunology – is a plus. You have a consistent record of scientific achievement with significant experience in drug development documented by presentations and publications in peer reviewed journals.

Additionally, you have the following skills/ expertise:

· 
Patient-related clinical experience as investigator on Phase I/II studies; industry experience (minimum 2-3 years) preferred

· 
You enjoy thinking strategically beyond current standard of care and at the same time able to work hands on

· 
You have a positive mindset and a deep understanding of the challenges and uncertainty of early medical research

· 
You are proactive, have a very flexible attitude, and you can adapt easily to change

· 
You work as experienced matrix leader and decision maker with strong leadership skills to influence and motivate Teams,

· 
You have an understanding of contemporary translational research tools, including imaging, biomarkers and an understanding of unmet medical needs in oncology and ability to think beyond current paradigms of care
