Genentech's US Biologics Technical Development organization has an opening for an Engineer to work in our Pharmaceutical. Processing and Technology Development (PPTD) department.

In this position, you will apply engineering theories, principles and techniques to assist the development of processes or technologies associated with the following areas of interest: storage / handling of protein bulks, freezing, thawing, mixing, sterile filtration, filling, pre-filled syringe processing, microencapsulation, lyophilization, and vial inspection. In addition, you will support on-going manufacturing operations by performing trouble shooting activities, and participating in technical transfers to the commercial manufacturing sites.

In this role, you will also participate in cross functional teams and collaborate with multiple functional areas such as formulation development, manufacturing and validation. In addition, you will help develop and execute test plans, and effectively communicate findings by oral presentations and by authoring memos, technical reports, and external publications.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will possess the following skills and experience. The level of the position will depend on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

·  Bachelor's degree in Pharmaceutical Science, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering or a related discipline
·  Experience in the pharma/biotech industry including 2+ years of experience in a lab or manufacturing environment is required for the Engineer I level
·  Advanced degree in a relevant discipline may be considered in lieu of industrial experience for the Engineer I level
·  Experience with general lab techniques and instrumentation
·  Proactive attitude with strong analytical and problem solving abilities
·  Effective verbal and written communication skills
·  Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team in a multi-disciplinary group setting

Preferred

·  Knowledge of large molecule Drug Product pharmaceutical processes and equipment technologies
·  Mechanical aptitude
