Job description

Procter & Gamble Brussels Innovation Centre (PGBS) is part of a successful €3.9M H2020 Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network (MSCA-ITN) titled “ BIOCLEAN ”. The overall research objective of the ITN is to deliver multidisciplinary microbiological research to understand the factors influencing soil (including microbial and consumer soil) adhesion and cohesion and the impact of surface modification and how biological responses are affected by cell-to-cell and cell-to surface-interactions. One funded PhD studentships, will be based at Procter & Gamble Brussels Innovation Centre based in Brussels, Belgium and the PhD degree will be awarded by Bristol University. The research project focuses on understanding the mechanism(s) of consumer and biological soil removal from surfaces in hand dishwashing direct application conditions and the impact of surface modification and surfactant aggregation behaviour using a range of experimental techniques including streaming potential, dual polarisation interferometry, x-ray/neutron scattering/reflectometry, atomic force microscopy, ellipsometry, quartz crystal microbalance, TOFSIMS, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and fluorescence microscopy.

If successful, you will be employed by Procter & Gamble and join a talented team of P&G research scientists and will have close links to Bristol and Birmingham Universities who will be your joint Academic supervisors. During the 3-year program, you will also have the opportunities to undergo secondment at Bristol University (UK) over 10 months and engage in interactions and collaboration with 14 other Early Stage Researchers from 9 EU partners in the programme and you will be required to attend training courses held in several EU countries. The position is available to start asap will be for 3 years.

Desired profile

We welcome applications from qualified students with a strong degree in Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Nanoscience or related subjects. EU students are eligible for the Brussels based fellowship. However, the candidate must satisfy all EU mobility rules related to the Marie Curie Programme. At the time of recruitment by the host organisation (P&G Brussels), researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc) in the country of their host organisation (Belgium) for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the reference date. Short stays such as holidays and/or compulsory national service are not taken into account. As far as international European interest organisations or international organisations are concerned, this mobility rule does not apply to the hosting of eligible researchers.
