Job description

Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.

As a member of the software engineering division, you will use basic knowledge of software architecture to perform tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications or operating systems according to provided design specifications. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture.

Work involves some problem solving with assistance and guidance in understanding and applying company policies and processes. Gaining competence in own area and acquiring a higher level understanding of role, processes and procedures. BS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 0-2 years of previous software engineering or related experience.

On a typical day you will probably be working as part of a small, focused team doing one or more of the following:

·  Programming, testing and operating software at the heart of Oracle's Analytic product. You might be:
·  Writing some code in Java, Groovy, C++, Python or another modern programming language.
·  End-to-end software development (including project lifecycle): build, test, install, configuration, upgrade, security, scaling, routing, process control, eventing, scheduling, backup, restore, etc... on *nix, Windows and Mac platforms.
·  Deploying and operating your software in data-centres across the globe.
·  Working with containerisation and virtualisation technologies such as Docker and OpenStack.
·  Participating in the software engineering community at Oracle and beyond. Maybe you will be:
·  Discussing potential solutions to complex technical problems and building consensus among disparate teams.
·  Learning a new skill or trying a new way of working.
·  Teaching someone else a skill.
·  Developing your ideas by working in collaboration with some of the groundbreaking customers, startups and universities in Bristol (and customers globally).

We are flexible about education and experience but we think this role is suited to someone with a very strong academic record and at least a 1st or 2.1 bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in software engineering/software development, or similar.
