Over the last 5 years, the 600-staff NRC has published around 1000 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and files about 80 patents every year. The NRC also has around 100 research collaborations with universities or research institutes around the world.

The NRC is organized with three large research institutes for Nutritional Science , Materials Science and Food Safety & Analytical Science . These major Institutes are complemented by Research Units focusing on Clinical Development, PetCare. Lausanne is home to the 2 strongholds of Nestlé's fundamental research: the Nestlé Research Center (NRC) and the Nestlé Institute of Health Sciences (NIHS) that investigate the complex interactions between nutrition, health and wellness.

We are currently looking for a Scientist in human microbiome research with strong expertise in the field of microbial metabolites and their interaction with the host. The open position is part of the Host-Microbe-Interaction group within NRCs Gut Ecosystem Department in the Institute of Nutritional Science.

In this role you will be responsible to identify and lead new research opportunities linking the microbiome to health and nutrition, in collaboration with external and internal stakeholders while ensuring impactful translation for product application. More specifically, your expertise shall contribute to unravel modes of actions of the effect of nutritional modulators of the microbiome such as prebiotics and probiotics on host health.

Key responsibilities
· Develop nutritional concepts to promote health via modulation of human microbiome
· Integrate and strengthen research on microbial metabolites and interaction with the host
· Interact closely with providers of metabolomics analytical platforms
· Shape and lead research activities, coach technicians and/or students
· Communicate and publish results internally and externally
· Translate scientific findings for business applications
· Develop collaboration networks inside and outside Nestlé

Education and experience
· PhD in the field of human microbiome and/or microbial metabolites
· 2-5 years post-doctoral research experience in above mentioned areas
· Strong knowledge in metabolomics (from sample preparation to data analysis to results interpretation)
· Industry experience or experience in collaboration with industry partners, combined with project management experience is considered an advantage
· Knowledge in prebiotics and probiotics, as well as experience with clinical trials is considered an asset
· Fluent in both written and spoken English
