ROLE DESCRIPTION

I. IDENTIFICATION :

TITLE: Maintenance Technician LOCATION: ALL

DIVISION: _ Supply REPORTS TO (Title): Maintenance Lead

·  SUMMARY : A brief mission statement highlighting the core purpose of the job.

The Technicians are system experts in their assigned area, and are highly functional in multiple areas. The Technicians must also ensure efficiency, operational conformance, product quality and continuous improvement. Functions as a member of a maintenance area team which is directly responsible for the efficient maintenance of a group of assets to a baseline state. Effectively troubleshoot Operate/change over specified machinery in the assigned area. This job requires Strong Communication, Interpersonal and Team Building skills to support site objectives.

III. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES : List the major responsibilities, in terms of outputs, in order of priority and importance to the overall job.

Technical Accountabilities

·  Performs all assigned activities & job tasks within a line or area
·  Ability to Operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
·  Takes corrective actions in solving problems to root cause level.
·  Able to assess equipment operating reliability and perform routine repairs, adjustments and malfunction troubleshooting.
·  Performs equipment PM's as assigned.
·  Knowledge of how to maintain accurate records of QC checks, production numbers or waste performance. Able to interpret this data and use in troubleshooting. Able to perform this function if necessary.
·  Knowledge of how to perform and interpret QC tasks such as metal checks, inspection of date codes, item numbers, dump logs, etc.
·  High degree of ownership for product quality:
·  Able to operate a forklift.
·  Able to operate a computer and utilize the basic standard desktop systems (LSS, PSL, MIS, SQCIS, etc.).
·  Understands principles of inventory control.
·  Has knowledge of the plant's products and goals.
·  Understands production schedules, production computer systems, work instructions
·  Has general knowledge of Mars & the systems used by the business.
·  Duties and tasks are frequently nonroutine. Resolves most questions and problems, and refers only the most complex issues to higher levels.

Safety Compliance

·  Complete work under safe operating procedures.
·  Provide input to any investigation for area of responsibility.

·  Provide input to project safety reviews (SSEPR) on systems in area.
·  Familiarity and awareness of Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), Working at Heights (W@H), and confined space programs.

Implement Continuous Improvement

·  Drive continuous improvement by developing and implementing systems that optimize all phases of the manufacturing process and support key business objectives (waste, labour, reliability, ATS, line capacity, etc.).
·  Provide input to feasibility and change management requests.
·  Resource to other sites and across areas.
·  Knowledge in problem solving tools: Break Down Analysis (BDAs), 5 Why, Fishbone tools, etc.

Equipment Maintenance and Sanitation

·  Identify, report and help any potential product contamination issue.
·  Maintains clean work environment including 5S adherence and follow through to ensure completion of action plans to address sources of contamination.
·  Support role in cleaning and sanitation of area.

Steady State/Changeover/Transition

·  Responsible for supporting changeover (planning, execution, ramp up to standard rate).
·  Responsible for insuring complete and current troubleshooting documentation on equipment within area of responsibility.
·  Safely execute start-up and shutdown activities.
·  Knowledge and understanding of critical path milestones.

Recognized expert for maintenance.

·  Ability to troubleshoot routine and non-routine issues and be a resource towards achieving safe, timely, cost efficient solutions.
·  Develop best practices for area and insure best practices are followed.
·  Lead or participate in continuous improvement efforts.
·  Effective shift communications. Attends and participates in maintenance issues in shift overlaps, quality reviews, and daily meetings as required.
·  Ability to complete root cause failure analysis on issues involving reliability, product/packaging defects, downtime and slow time.
·  Effectively works and communicates with all departments (scheduling, engineering, R&D, IE, logistics, operations, etc.).

Maintenance Technician

The Maintenance Technician is a resource for the Maintenance Lead and Maintenance Manager and managers at the site for input to projects, development of new procedures and guidelines.

·  DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY : List the major types of decisions and recommendations which are made by the incumbent.

The Maintenance Technician makes decisions on machine level PM, breakdowns, and planned work during execution. In addition, the Maintenance Technician make decisions to starting, stopping the line as needed to maintain the safety of plant assets in co-operation with the Area Lead in the maintenance and operations group.

EDUCATION:

·  High School diploma or equivalent; in-house training is required.
·  Must meet all job specific education requirements as deemed necessary
·  Associate Degree or equivalent training is considered a plus.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

·  Successful completion of Mars Apprenticeship program or 3 years in production support or maintenance support role and/or 2 year technical degree . Education could be substituted for work experience..

X. Job Specific Addendums

·  The technician in the Mars maintenance organization will fit within the description of this document. Within the maintenance technician is:
·  Curative Technician on shift rotation
·  PM Technician on shift or day based rotation
·  Continous Improvement technician on shift or day based rotation
·  Area maintenance technician role.

Each site may develop a technical addendum for each technician role to address sit specific needs. This technical addendum must fall within the description of this document.
