Main Goal
Overview: This Internship is designed to provide an individual with the opportunity to gain greater understanding of vegetable research and breeding operations. The intern will work with research and breeding programs to learn techniques and decision-making criteria as it relates to vegetable hybrid/cultivar development. The Summer Internship will be available approximately between May and August.
Job description
Essential Duties Include, but are not Limited to:
- Sow seed for project
-Sample leaf tissue for DNA extraction and molecular marker analysis
- Inoculate seedlings with appropriate potyvirus
-Transplant seedlings into field
- Collect phenotypic data on mature plants and fruit
- Work with molecular team to submit data
- Able to regularly lift 25 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
Profile
Education/Experience Requirements:
• Currently enrolled in a 4 year degree program, Biology and Plant Science preferred
• Basic understanding of local crop production practices.
