Job description

MAJOR FUNCTION

Develop innovative hair products especially for Hair Care/Coloration domain from concept inception to the delivery of a marketable formula with proven consumer perceivable benefits. Working in a team-oriented environment to identify new technology pathways with potential benefits which translate the technology into tangible hair formulations. Interact with various groups within R&I for new product development, product concept testing, and smooth transition of new products and technology to the development laboratories. Transfer and/or develop in vitro evaluation methods to speed up the screening of hair oriented technologies.

II. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

·  Develop new hair care/coloration technology pathways using new or existing raw materials to fully explore the potential benefits.
·  Propose new technical concepts and mechanisms in the field of Hair Care and Coloration.
·  Work closely with Innovative Raw Materials Department, Advanced Research, suppliers, universities and start-up to identify new raw materials and new technologies with potential benefits for hair care/coloration applications.
·  Put in place a patent strategy that will safeguard the formula and technology invented.
·  Work closely with the labs + scale-up to ensure smooth transition of new products and technologies.
·  Communicate and present the technology of new products to the strategic committee and colleagues from different geographic locations and different categories within the company.
·  Maintain good knowledge of competitor’s patent environments and close awareness of consumer need gap and marketing trends.
·  JOB REQUIREMENTS
·  M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Physico Chemistry, or Bioengineering.
·  Excellent knowledge of structure and property relationship of materials and emulsions. Preferably with minimum 2 years experience in cosmetic and personal care industries with knowledge in hair care product characterization a plus.
·  Hands-on experience in formulation of coatings, cosmetics, adhesive or food products. Hair product formulation a plus. Practical training in chemistry, polymer physics, material science, rheology and surface science a plus.
·  Strong communication, presentation and project management skills. Be able to work independently and to drive the project forward with minimum supervision. Sensitive to various cosmetic products attributes. Creative, organized and self-motivated.
·  Be able to think out of the box and willing to take an extra step to get job done. Foreign language skills in French, Chinese or Japanese a plus. Must be legally eligible to work in the US on an on-going basis.
