Job description

Job Description

Requisition ID: 7543180329

Janssen BioTherapeutics is seeking a highly motivated candidate to develop a best-in-industry platform for the delivery of biotherapeutics to the brain.

The development of biotherapeutics to treat neurological diseases has been hampered in significant part due to the intrinsically poor permeability of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) for large proteins. One commonly exploited path for increasing brain penetration of biotherapeutics is receptor-mediated transcytosis. While current receptor-mediated transcytosis platforms have succeeded in increasing the brain delivery of biotherapeutics, several deficiencies remain. Addressing these deficiencies will be the focus of this project. Within this context, the postdoctoral fellow will have latitude BBB.

At Janssen, postdoctoral fellows are trained by expert scientists working at the cutting edge of drug discovery. Janssen BioTherapeutics supports a wide range of therapeutic areas including Oncology, Neuroscience, Cardiovascular and Metabolism, Immunology, and Infectious Diseases. The successful candidate will learn from and contribute to an industry-leading drug discovery program that has brought numerous quality therapeutics to patients and significant contributions to human health. They will partner throughout the Janssen R&D organization and participate in cross-functional team discussions, gaining insight into many aspects of biotherapeutic discovery and development. The Postdoctoral Fellow is expected to author papers on their research and present novel findings at scientific conferences.

Key Objective:

To use a deep understanding of BBB biology to develop an optimized platform for the delivery of biotherapeutics to the brain.

Desired profile

Qualifications

Suitable candidates will have a Ph.D. in cell biology, neuroscience or a related field. Research experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred:

·  Broad knowledge of cell biology, endosomal trafficking and blood-brain barrier biology
·  Extensive expertise in culturing and conducting assays with a wide variety of cell types including brain endothelial cells and iPSCs
·  Confocal microscopy
·  General experience with molecular biology, protein expression and purification, in vitro biochemical assays, ELISA, MSD, and cell-based functional assays.
·  Candidates must display an ability to independently design and execute research. In addition to a broad knowledge of cell biology and neuroscience, we are seeking an individual with deep intellectual curiosity, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
