Mechanical Equipment / Facility Engineer
10 years +/- experience

This engineering position is in the IBM Research Microelectronics Research Laboratory (MRL) located at IBM Research headquarters in Yorktown, NY.
The mission of the MRL is to design, build and test novel microelectronic devices for a wide variety of applications such as advanced server systems, biomedical, photonics and sensor platforms. The MRL has a complete set of semiconductor processing tools which are tailored for the unique projects supported across the IBM Company. The tool set is constantly going through replacement and upgrade cycles which require the expert level skills of an mechanical equipment / facility engineer.

Job Duties:
1. Specify new and used equipment to create the equipment selection criteria.
2. Create and maintain an overall schedule for multiple pieces of equipment in the queue: from conception, specification, purchase, factory inspection, delivery, installation and qualification.
3. Design for and execute the installation for the equipment.
4. Understand the facility requirements for each piece of new, used, relocated or modified equipment and the equipment's effect on the greater lab, the building and the environment.
5. Create and maintain STRONG relationships with equipment maintenance technicians, installation trades persons (plumbers, electricians, carpenters, tin knockers), building maintenance technicians, facilities engineering and building operations.

High Level Requirement:
The individual will be responsible for providing equipment planning and technical support for semiconductor and the like equipment. This includes the ability to write specifications, converse technically with vendors, create equipment installation schedules, drive equipment installations, collaborate with equipment users and drive equipment start-ups. The individual must also have a facility background; Requirements would include the ability to find space for new equipment within IBM locations and be creative to design layouts for the equipment which meets all operational and safety requirements. The individual must be knowledgeable of equipment interconnects and facility hook-ups. The individual must have knowledge of how equipment loads will effect lab and building systems such as: electric, cooling water, exhaust, air-conditioning, drains, compressed air and etc. This position requires proactive planning for maintaining and upgrading facility systems to meet future equipment requirements.

Other:
Create tool purchase specifications, understand equipment facility requirements and equipment space needs, equipment layouts, create equipment installation cost estimates, create project schedules, participate in vendor discussions, understand equipment and laboratory safety, understand equipment facility hook ups and be able to share the information in a crisp fashion to designers, facility engineers, equipment operators, safety engineers & trades, interface with other departments to create seamless and unified relationships, understand toxic gases and hazardous chemicals, understand life and safety monitoring systems, understand tool safety and tool safety devices

THE CANDIDATE MUST BE A HANDS ON INDIVIDUAL; IF NOT: DO NOT APPLY! MUST WORK IN THE LAB. MUST GET DRESSED IN A CLEAN ROOM SUIT. MUST DO FIELD MEASURING. MUST BE ABLE TO CARRY AND CLIMB A LADDER, MUST LIFT CEILING TILES. THIS IS MORE THAN A DESK SIDE ENGINEERING JOB.
