Graduate Information Developer
Internship York (North Yorkshire)
Job description
Netcool is the market leading brand in the IT service assurance and fault management market. It is used worldwide by a large customer base of telcos/Managed Service Providers (MSPs), enterprise and government customers in support of their 24x7 operations. If you use the internet, make a phone call or bank online, it is highly likely that the service you are using is supported by one or more Netcool solutions. The latest iteration of the solution is Netcool Operations Insight (NOI) which enables customers to use cognitive analytics to identify, isolate and resolve problems before they impact their business.
NOI provides consolidated operational views across customers' local, cloud and hybrid environments and offers actional insights into the performance of services and their dynamic network and IT infrastructures. We are a global organisation and you will be working with colleagues both locally, and at sites based across the globe including Austin & Raleigh (USA), Cork (Ireland), and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) to name a few.
This is an exciting time for the Netcool portfolio. With 20+ years of history behind us as an on-premise deployed solution, the focus recently and for the coming years is on transitioning the existing offering to cloud-native microservices-based architectures as well as developing new cloud-native solutions to enhance the portfolio.
We are seeking to attract talented Information Developers (IDs) with a positive working attitude and the ability (or desire) to work with a global team. Successful candidates will have good communication skills and be able to discuss technical topics with both technical and non-technical audiences.
We have adopted the "squad" model for software development; each squad is completely self-contained, being responsible for the full software lifecycle encompassing design, development, test and deployment. Information Developers are members of the squad, participating in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, end-of-sprint reviews and retrospectives, thus contributing to the squad's success.
Information Developers also comprise the ID Chapter. This global network of highly experienced Information Developers provides support and community to each other. They work together on common goals and tasks that are specific to the Information Developer. The ID Chapter also receives career guidance and mentoring from a specialised manager that understands the unique nature of this role.
The core tasks of the Information Developer are:
Working together with the Product Owner, Software Engineers and Quality Assurance Engineers in the squad to understand the requirements and desired User Experience (UX) of the software
Defining and sizing the ID tasks required for each User Story in the backlog
Writing appropriate technical documentation for these User Stories. For example, installation guides, technical how-tos, online help screens, quick-start guides etc.
Working directly with customers/users to understand their needs and translate this into exceptional docs
The role is also expanding to include some or all of these additional areas:
Writing for social media e.g. producing technical blog articles and using social networks (Twitter, Linked-in) to promote them
Contributing to the production of short videos and online demos
Using Design Thinking methodologies to ensure Information and Documentation contributes to a delightful User Experience
Attributes we look for in a candidate:
Ability to learn quickly and pick up new technologies and processes
Strong interpersonal skills
The ability to work in a multi-disciplined team
An attitude of continuous improvement – peer reviewing content and providing feedback to peers
Project planning and organisation skills. Good at managing own time and working independently
Thoroughness and diligence
This role can be placed in Cork or Southbank London
This role is writing words and content not code or a software developer role
