Job description

IBM Event Streams is a very successful Tier 1 IBM Cloud service running in multiple IBM Cloud datacenters around the globe and and makes up part of the foundation PaaS services. Event Streams provides a fast, scalable event streaming service available to customers of IBM Cloud. It also underpins multiple IBM cloud technologies.

The EventStreams team has been at the forefront of Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CICD) SW development for the last 4 years; delivering the initial offering and then rapidly scaling out the service to multiple environments worldwide. We operate in a true agile, continuous delivery model utilising the latest tools and technologies. When something isn't working, we fix it, improve it, and then apply the knowledge learnt. You will have the opportunity to learn every aspect of running a 24x7 Cloud Service and will gain highly-marketable skills in the process.

We are looking for candidates to perform a DevOps role for a key installation of Event Streams at a large client. The successful candidates will own the running and operation of the service. Additionally, integrating closely with the development teams they will drive and implement customer specific requirements and improvements into the product and own the management and rollout to the installation.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

The key requirement is to have a passion for Developing a High quality, Highly Available service. Engineers that have been successful in this area typically have:

• A solid engineering underpinning to understand what High Availability means.
• Embrace the "you develop it, you operate it" culture - which means if it goes wrong you will be called out to fix it.
• Have a passion to keep up to speed with the new technologies in the CICD development process and Cloud Space.
• Are great team workers that are willing to turn their hand to whatever the highest priority issue of the day happens to be.

Candidates should have a strong desire to work within a CICD environment and have a passion for embracing new cloud technologies.
You need to be collaborative, able to handle responsibility and love learning new techniques and tools.
There is no requirement to be expert in any one language, however knowledge of Go, Java, Python or other scripting languages are useful, as well as Docker, Ansible, Jenkins, Orchestration and other cloud technologies such as Kubernetes
