At Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), we live by three core values that drive our business: Partner. Innovate. Act. These values combine to help us create important work all over the world to advance how people live and work.

HPE Labs are committed to the fast and seamless transfer of advanced technologies into next generation products and solutions; enabling the delivery of advanced Hybrid IT and IoT solutions for our customers.

We are currently seeking highly qualified, self-motivated post-docs to accelerate research towards new applications, core methodologies and technologies in computing platform architecture at Hewlett Packard Labs.

Hewlett Packard Labs is an international research organization with its headquarters and largest facility located in Palo Alto, California. As Hewlett Packard Enterprise's central research organization, Hewlett Packard Labs' purpose is to deliver breakthrough technologies and technology advancements that provide a competitive advantage for the company, by investing in fundamental science and technology in areas of interest to HPE and getting the resulting technologies ready for adoption into new and existing markets.

The system architecture hardware group focuses on researching and developing technologies, architectures and software for memory-driven computing, that can exploit novel hardware such as non-volatile memory and photonic interconnect, accelerators, and specialized SoCs.  We investigate and evaluate new system architecture and use those to assemble breakthrough system and fabric architectures.  Our team is diverse, with a broad range of skillsets and expertise that enables the exploration and development of new ideas not possible in more traditional monolithic research organizations.

We are seeking highly qualified candidates to come join our research as a post-doc, with the possibility of longer term co-innovation and collaboration. We are particularly interested in individuals with a background in systems, computer architecture, memory technology, storage, interconnects, high-performance computing. The ideal candidate has an excellent understanding of the current state of the art, major trends and opportunities, and a demonstrated track record in making things real in innovative ways, combined with a broad, entrepreneurial interest in contributing to the next generation of HPE’s products.

We expect our researchers (including post-docs) to provide thought leadership and technical influence internally and externally, to take innovations and make them real – from initial ideas to design, development, implementation, evaluation, and technology transfer. Ideal candidates thrive in an applied research environment, balancing scientific contributions with the ability to bring such contributions to practice. We expect researches to collaborate with other research teams, HPE business units, and external partners. Excellent software systems building skills are a significant plus.

Education and Experience

• Recently completed PhD degree (or other degree with significant research and innovation experience) in a relevant discipline, such as computer science, electrical or mechanical engineering, information technology, statistics, math, or physics.

• Proven track record of world-class innovative contributions and ideas, such as conference and journal publications

• Experience with innovative solution development, such as developing proofs-of-concept, first-of-a-kind solutions, and/or technology transfer.

Technical Skills:

• Proficiency in system architecture and interconnect protocols

• Familiarity with hardware design (FPGA and ASICs)

• Ability to develop rapid understanding of new problems and opportunities

• Deep understanding of the relevant environment, ecosystem, trends, and state of the art literature

• Excellent research and programming skills

• Ability to innovate, make research contributions, and bring ideas to reality in compelling ways

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills (in English)

• Strong track record to work independently and in teams

• Strong systems development and system software engineering skills (OS, drivers, compilers, runtime, middleware)

• Demonstrated ability to generate, frame, and carry out research, by papers published in top-tier conferences or journals

We offer:
