About the Entry Level Field Data Center Support Technician

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) Pointnext is seeking highly motivated entry level individuals for an opportunity as an Entry Level Field Data Center Support Technician to support HPE’s clients in the Des Moines, IA area.  

In this early career role, you will train to provide onsite support to our corporate clients in Des Moines, IA and the surrounding area. Based on the clients’ needs, the support services you provide will include server, storage, and networking installation, reactive break/fix, and support.

Training on the products we deliver and support, while gaining experience as a Field Data Center Support Technician, can lead to exciting future careers within HPE.

In this full-time position, you:

·  will be based in the Des Moines, IA area. No relocation assistance available
·  will likely have a company car
·  will likely be assigned a work schedule of 8am - 5pm Monday through Friday and, once out of initial training, will participate in after-hours / on call coverage to potentially include evening, night, weekend, and holiday coverage on a rotation basis
·  may be required to provide remedial support to surrounding areas
·  will routinely work some weekends and holidays
·  will, on a regular basis, routinely lift and carry 50+ pounds without assistance
·  may be required to undergo and pass customers’ background checks and fingerprinting for customer site access badges

Key Responsibilities

This is a full-time position which will include hours of 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, but will participate on a rotation basis in occasional after-hours / on call coverage to include occasional weekends and holidays.

·  Provide a range of technical post-sales or service delivery support to our clients on standard enterprise data center systems
·  Maintain high level customer satisfaction by clarifying customer needs and ensuring that they are met
·  Handle customer relation problems promptly and appropriately, escalating issues as needed according to established procedures
·  Respond to service, product, technical, and customer relations questions
·  Other duties as assigned

In this position, you:

·  will likely have a company car, so a valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required
·  will likely be assigned a work schedule of 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday, but will participate on a rotation basis in occasional after-hours / on call coverage, so the ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule are required
·  will, on a regular basis, routinely lift and carry 50+ pounds without assistance, so the physical strength, balance, and dexterity to enable that ability are required.
·  will likely be required to undergo and pass customers’ background checks and fingerprinting for site access badges, so the willingness and ability to undergo—and pass—such checks are required.

Education and Experience Required 

·  Bachelor’s degree (in a technical field ideal), and
·  Strong mechanical aptitude and technical acumen

OR

·  Associate’s or vocational degree (technical field strongly preferred), or high school diploma, and
·  1+ year work experience in field technical support, or other relevant work experience
·  Strong mechanical aptitude and technical acumen

Knowledge and Skills Preferred

·  1+ years’ experience troubleshooting enterprise servers strongly preferred

Knowledge and Skills Required

·  Basic mechanical aptitude to enable assembly and disassembly of computer components
·  Basic understanding of IT technical support, including networking and troubleshooting
·  Basic project management skills preferred
·  Well-developed communication skills
·  Analytical problem-solving skills 
·  Ability to build and maintain ongoing relationships with customers, peers and support partners 
·  Ability to work effectively in a team environment
·  Ability to perform well in high-pressure situations 
·  Ability to work independently and be self-disciplined 
·  Ability to learn and comply with organization and policies  
·  Baseline proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products, to include Outlook, Excel, and Word
