Job description

Your Responsibilities :
We have an exciting new permanent opportunity for a Process Chemist to join our Technical team based at our site in Irvine, Ayrshire. This is a role that will suit either an experienced professional or graduate with relevant transferable skills.

As a Chemist at the Irvine site, the successful candidate will work within the Technical function primarily supporting production and process improvement activities. This would involve working as a member of a cross-functional team to support primary manufacturing processes including day to day problem solving, development of corrective and preventative actions and seeking opportunities for continuous improvement.

Areas of involvement will include some or all the following:

• Technical custodian of a chemistry process, providing a product/process specific technical point of focus for all functions on site.
• Supporting the site Quality function to enable informed decision making on non-routine matters.
• Supporting the site Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) function to enable good practice and compliance with legislation.
• Supporting capital engineering projects to ensure adequate design and commissioning of new plant and processes.
• Supporting laboratory investigations and process improvement initiatives.
• Supporting the Commissioning and Validation of new processes on plant

About you:

You will have a degree within Chemistry or a closely related field and for an experienced hire you will also have demonstrable relevant experience within a GMP environment. You will need a solid understanding of organic chemistry with ideally a technical knowledge depth/breadth in process chemistry and process development alongside an analytical ability to diagnose situations and develop solutions.

This role interacts with various teams / departments, including engineering, quality, safety and more, across GSK therefore you will need strong communication skills and the ability to operate as part of a team and collaborate effectively across all functions.

Basic qualifications:
• As a minimum, a degree in chemistry or closely related field with demonstrable relevant experience within a GMP environment is preferred.
• Sound understanding of organic chemistry with technical knowledge depth/breadth in process chemistry and process development alongside an analytical ability to diagnose situations and develop solutions.
• Able to demonstrate good communication skills and the ability to interact with and influence individuals at all levels in the business. In addition to this, you will be able to operate as part of a team and collaborate effectively across all functions.

Preferred qualifications:
• A graduate or postgraduate qualification in chemistry
• Track record in the pharmaceutical industry in a scientific role
• Experience of laboratory chemistry at litre scale
• Experience in plant operations, process commissioning and process validation
• Understanding of basic analytical chemistry techniques
• Problem solving capability
• Ability to understand processes thoroughly by applying fundamental scientific principles
• Continuous improvement mindset
• Positive Interpersonal and Leadership skills
• Good written, verbal communication skills
• Good understanding of GMP and the modern regulated environment for pharmaceuticals and bulk API manufacture
