About the Position

Are you interested in an exciting opportunity to work on revolutionary tire technology?  The Non-Pneumatic Tire (NPT) group at the Goodyear Innovation Center in Akron, Ohio does just that.  We are looking for an outstanding Staff Development Engineer to join our hands-on team.  The NPT group covers all facets of product development, including design, prototyping, experimentation and manufacturing.  We are a cross-functional group including Mechanical and Systems Engineering, Manufacturing as well as Material and Reinforcement Science.  This position will drive the design and fabrication of manufacturing process equipment while working with the product design engineers to maintain the linkage between process and product design.  There will be opportunity to derisk the product and process through pilot equipment and agile experiments.

 

  Primary Responsibilities

·  Meet internal & external customer requirements. Support overall department by following department processes. 
·  Identify and plan process risks and testing requirements using engineering principles as well as through canvassing organizational knowledge and design guidelines
·  Work closely with the manufacturing engineers to ensure harmony in product and process design
·  Perform machine design tasks through solid modeling in Inventor and create or facilitate engineering drawings for fabrication
·  Manage suppliers and external collaborators in fabrication and prototyping activities.
·  Work with Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) teams to proactively design for HSE as well as gain the necessary approvals
·  Thoroughly document machine designs and process workflows
·  Provide planning estimates for throughput
·  Perform capital cost estimates and manage capital development budgets

 

Required Education and Experience

·  BS in mechanical engineering or related field required
·   MS preferred
·  Prior industry experience preferred

 

Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated knowledge in several subjects, in each of the following areas:

·  Manufacturing process concepts
·  Technical risk analysis
·  Product design for manufacturing

Demonstrated experience with:

·  Machine design for HSE using Inventor
·  Process design and release in an automotive environment
·  Identification of high-risk process elements and prototyping in an agile environment
·  Working closely with the design team during the product design phase
·  Strong communication skills :  capable of conveying information concisely to diverse audiences
·  Teamwork skills : ability to thrive in a cross-functional team and deliver results on time
