Role Summary/Purpose

In this role, you will help create useful and desirable software, web and mobile applications for Digital software and the Edison digital platform. As a Senior UX Interaction Designer you may be an individual contributor to multiple user experience engagements as well as work on highly complex projects that require in-depth knowledge across AI, Analytics, Cloud, Edge, Enterprise Imaging, Data Management, Visualizations, Developer and Startup partnership initiatives and more.
Essential Responsibilities

• Designs product or service behavior that creates business value for customers and GE, while meeting user needs and expressing product and corporate brand values.
• Demonstrates a mastery of Agile / Lean UX methodologies.
• Guides effective documentation and communication of design (via wireframes, mockups, and requirements engineering).
• Share emerging design, technology, industry, regulatory and market trends to the team or community.
• Builds consensus among those within a group or groups.

In this role, you will:
• Contribute to interaction patterns and components for the Edison Design System
• Work with visual designers and user interface developers to design the product user interfaces using the system
• Communicate designs via case studies, concept sketches, wireframes, digital Sketch prototypes, guidelines, design specifications, presentations and discussions
• Participate in team discussions and reviews about current user experience design projects
• Research and evaluate emerging design, technology, industry, and market trends by component and project
• Be a systems thinker aiming for standards, commonality, reuse and extension of existing patterns and approaches whenever possible
• Conduct independent user research and testing on concepts and products to supplement the capacity of the UX research team.
• Communicate concepts, approaches and design decisions using research, feedback and data from multiple sources
Qualifications/Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Interaction, Graphic, or Industrial Design preferred or in “STEAM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math)
• A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in product or service design OR Master’s degree with 3 years of experience in product or service design.

• Leverages the Design system and internal Sketch toolkit to create high-fidelity prototypes and interface designs that clearly and effectively express product capabilities and behaviors, as well as business and product brand values.
• Develops concepts and studies that explore multiple approaches to a product problem. feature or customer need
• Creates UX design specifications and documentation that provide detailed instructions for developers regarding workflows and all aspects of a product’s user interface
• Creates multiple conceptual variations to a single product, feature or component to get feedback on and ensure GEHC chooses the best solution for the user and product
• Explains and defends design decisions to other members of the project team including developers, product managers, marketers and other designers.
• Constructively participates in critiques of own design ideas and those of others.
• Designs new components to contribute to design systems, documents intended usage.
• Skilled in standard design tools (Adobe CC, Invision, Sketch), hand drawing and visual communication, familiar with time-based and interactive prototyping tools .
• Understands the implications of digital display sizes, platforms and software technologies and for visual and interaction interface design.
• Uses generative techniques (sketching, brainstorming, etc.) to establish a variety of possible design decisions and decision scenarios.
• Expresses UX and design concepts to collaborators on cross functional teams. Goes beyond merely presenting designs, explains the story of the rationale and benefit of design ideas.
• Can conduct independent user research and testing on concepts and products to supplement UX research team. Knowledgeable of various research approaches and methods (discovery and evaluative; quantitative and qualitative) and when to use which approach. Open to feedback from user testing and to evaluating UX concepts based on research.

• Demonstrates knowledge of business products, key processes, suppliers, customers and market/competitors. Understands the competitive landscape, regulatory marketing, etc.
• Creates artifacts to facilitate shared understanding of business benefit for stakeholders.
• Works to create an understanding of how individual people and things fit within larger structures (like systems or organizations), as well as the relationships between parts of a system and the system as a whole.
