Role Summary/Purpose

We are seeking a Scientist for a two-year position in the GE Healthcare Life Sciences R&D department for Bioprocess Downstream in Uppsala, Sweden. The position is part of an Entrepreneurial Post-Doctoral Program: a dynamic, new venture bringing entrepreneurial spirit & business focus to exciting scientific research. Essential Responsibilities

There is no other life sciences company quite like GE Healthcare(GEHC) Life Sciences. A $5 billion business with 11,000 individuals in over 100 countries, we are at work enabling a new era of precision health. This position is based at the GEHC Uppsala site in Sweden. The Downstream Resin R&D Department within the Bioprocess business unit consists of some 100 people and is responsible for research and development regarding new world class downstream purification solutions.

You will be responsible for researching and early-development of material chemistry solutions for future purification technologies with emphasis on novel porous material structures. Additive manufacturing will be the prioritized approach to new material design, and third-party technologies for high resolution printing will be reviewed and evaluated. The research activities aim to deliver proof-of-concept data that will underpin the initiation of future product development projects.
R&D work in this Scientist position will be performed in a cross-functional environment involving collaboration with chemical researchers, additive process engineers, and bioprocess applications specialists. Activities will involve theoretical studies, technology scouting, and laboratory work with material chemistry and additive manufacturing technology

The Scientist position is based in Uppsala and project work is carried out in the multidisciplinary and global environment of GEHC Life Science area.

Role responsibilities will involve:

·  To perform research and development activities within the area of material chemistry and additive manufacturing approaches
·  To contribute in collaborative work in functional and/or cross site projects
·  To analyse and report technology scouting and literature reviews 
·  To independently plan, conduct, and analyse experimental studies
·  To perform experimental work in chemical labs
·  To conduct all tasks within the framework of GE Healthcare policies and guidelines

·  Proven experience of performing independent research and/or development activities 
·  Documented domain expertise within material and polymer and/or surface chemistry, preferably also with modelling experience  
·  Knowledge and/or experience of additive manufacturing technologies 
·  Team player and ability to work well in a multidisciplinary environment 
·  Proven ability of planning, executing and evaluating experimental work 
·  Good communication skills - written and spoken
Desired Characteristics

·  PhD or Master’s degree within domain expertise areas as described above (or equivalent knowledge/experience)
·  Experience of additive manufacturing technologies in research or development activities 
·  Entrepreneurial spirit 
·  Fluent in English, both verbally and in writing
