Role Summary/Purpose

The Metallurgical Laboratory (MetLab) Supervisor is responsible for the operations of the MetLab in compliance with the Quality Management System (QMS) requirements. This role reports to the Quality Manager.
Essential Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
• Perform laboratory activities such as:
- Routine coating sample preparation and metallographic evaluation of engineering development and in-process materials
- Non-routine failure analysis of processed and/or returned products
- Analysis with tools/equipment such as Olympus GX 51 Inverted Metallurgical Microscope & Image (analySIS) program
- Hardness testing and tensile testing
- Intergranular attack (IGA) evaluation
• Participate in the installation and qualification of laboratory equipment and methods
• Assist engineers in preparing and updating Work Instructions for MetLab processes
• Drive Quality Improvement Projects and Risk Reduction Projects for laboratory operations
• Initiate Engineering Review / Q-Note for coating that nonconforms to specification
• Ensure laboratory output meets operational demands in a sustained manner:
- Maintain laboratory equipment, inventory and consumables
- Manpower planning through management of shared human resources
- Provide On-the-Job training to laboratory technicians and assist in grading performance of laboratory technicians
• Maintain proper documentation and records as required by the QMS
• Complete various assigned projects and special individual duties as required by Quality Manager
Qualifications/Requirements

• Diploma with a minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a manufacturing/ metallurgical laboratory environment with inspection & test equipment and experience in equivalent quality methodologies and diagnostic techniques would be desirable
• Proficient in metallographic specimen preparation, microstructure evaluation, hardness testing and Round Robin testing and evaluation

• Excellent problem solving and time management skills
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
