Role Summary/Purpose

The Lead Software Engineer will deliver new software features and enhancements, as well as provide reliability solutions to address user stories in Heavy Haul Locomotive Control Software for our existing installed-base locomotive fleets. The development of this software brings new use and value to our customers for the existing product lines that are currently being used by our customers.
Essential Responsibilities

In this role, you will demonstrate and gain cross-functional leadership through understanding and communicating business goals, program objectives, and SDLC processes. You will utilize experience and expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals and customer value. You will collaborate with a team of software engineers and grow and evolve in your career within the vision, mission, and culture of the GE Transportation Controls and Software Engineering organization.

In addition, you will:

• Lead the development and maintenance of Locomotive Control System source code as well as systems and networks for existing, installed-base locomotive product lines
• Analyze user stories to design and implement software solutions for complex control systems to provide additional value and enhanced operator experience to our products and customers 
• Collaborate with engineering software team to build improved software integration and development techniques 
• Program (in C, Assembly, etc.) all applications, components, and interfaces for new features and solutions 
• Work closely with the commercial, systems, and controls engineering teams to ensure application development meets product specification requirements, as well as partners and vendors to ensure inter-operability and reuse 
• Govern and execute the Software Development Lifecycle through design, implementation, and test software, while ensuring quality delivery 
• Participate actively in design and code reviews 
• Drive performance and reliability solutions 
• Be responsible for close interaction with customers to drive requirements and customer satisfaction 
• Grow talent through providing technical mentoring for more junior Software Engineers

Qualifications/Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science 
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in an engineering position

• Software Development experience and knowledge in vintage and modern software languages 

• Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems

• PC proficiency
