Role Summary/Purpose

The Lead Composite Manufacturing Process Engineer will support and lead efforts to achieve the business’s goals for polymer matrix composite components. In the Lead Engineer role, you will lead projects focused on developing and maturing manufacturing technology in support of delivery. Additionally, the role will provide manufacturing expertise to both internal and external sites by solving problems to achieve on-time delivery, improve quality, improve productivity, and reduce cost.
Essential Responsibilities

Lead Engineers demonstrate leadership in assuring efficient and robust composite manufacturing processes are developed and implemented in the supply chain. They will leverage their experience / expertise to utilize technology and advanced processes to guide composite manufacturing plants in making their processes more robust, improving delivery, reducing cycle, and reducing cost.

In addition, as the Lead Composite Manufacturing Process Engineer, you will :

·  Provide technical leadership to personnel at manufacturing sites, and lead initiatives to improve manufacturing processes, quality, and productivity at those sites

·  Develop and implement action plans to prevent identified process concerns from affecting product quality, delivery, and cost

·  Actively engage with personnel at composite manufacturing sites to instill an understanding of the use of engineering principles to resolve issues

·  Role model adherence to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements to hourly personnel at composite sites / suppliers

·  Manage and communicate project status, status of issues, and significant developments

·  Assure proper documentation of technical data and lessons learned generated for assigned projects consistent with engineering policies and procedures

·  Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews

·  Position requires an appropriate mix of skills

·  This position may require between 10-20% travel to support manufacturing sites
Qualifications/Requirements

·  Bachelor’s Degree in Material Science, Physics, or Chemistry from an accredited university or college (Or a High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of manufacturing or engineering experience)

·  Minimum of 3 years of composite manufacturing or engineering experience

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT(S):

·  Ability and Willingness to travel between 10-20% to support manufacturing sites
Desired Characteristics

·  Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience in manufacturing of composite components for aerospace applications

·  Demonstrated experience in manufacturing engineering designing and implementing improved processes and solving critical shop issues impacting delivery, FTY, cost, etc.

·  Experience in diagnosing issues in either aerospace sandwich structures (honeycomb core preferred), resin transfer molding, or automated fiber placement

·  Experience in tool design, ply shape optimization and/or laser projection systems for composite lay-up

·  Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems

·  Ability to guide and influence others

·  Lean Six Sigma (GE employees only) certification or advanced use of statistical tools

·  Strong interpersonal and teambuilding skills

·  Effective team leadership skills

·  Effective project management ability

·  Strong oral and written communication skills
