Role Summary/Purpose

The Automation Controls Engineer’s role would be to develop system solutions in function block programming for metals and industrial markets. In this role you will be responsible for major and complex project execution with long-term business implications, provide technical support to sales and customers, developing of software, and hardware solutions, while following the completed and tested design to the field for installation.

Essential Responsibilities

As the Automation Controls Engineer you will:

·  Form part of a multi-disciplined team to deliver automation systems, ensuring customer and project requirements are met
·  Develop specialist knowledge in steel rolling, cranes, oil & gas, marine, and test bench plc automation
·  Ability to travel for commissioning of new hardware and software automation products in metals, cranes, oil & gas, and marine industries for an extended period
·  Assure all system and component designs meet requirements
·  Support and coordinate with interfacing organizations such as manufacturing, sourcing, services, global engineering, and systems engineering
·  Support New Product Introduction (NPI), fulfilment, and commissioning
·  Provide strong guidance and contribution to DMP and design to cost projects
·  Communicate progress to all levels of the organization
·  Provide support to the sales and proposal teams working on new prospects. Work with this team to transition successful proposals to the implementation/project stage
·  Ensure that all customer, reliability, contract and regulatory technical requirements on allocated projects are met
·  Lead and coordinate engineering design teams to meet system & project objectives in terms of quality, cost and schedule (on time delivery)
·  Identify and manage technical risks on the projects and ensure mitigation plans are in place
·  Support an environment of continual improvement, which includes leading lessons learnt activities and providing continual feedback to the engineering design team
·  Comply with GE EHS regulations
·  Configure, program, test and troubleshoot PLC based control systems and associated components
·  Support, update, and troubleshoot existing automation and drive systems in production
·  Electrical design, testing, and commissioning of control systems, control panels, and associated equipment

Qualifications/Requirements

·  Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent disciplines. New graduates are encouraged to apply
Desired Characteristics

·  Experience in function block and ladder programming environments
·  Knowledge of object-oriented programming, a desire to learn and become proficient. Master’s Degree or equivalent in electrical engineering or related subject
·  Good understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards applicable to both the industry and the equipment
·  Experience of system integration and working on multi-discipline projects
·  Experience in the design and control of PID regulated devices, sequencing, and general equipment automation control through PLC’s
·  Knowledge of PID and PI control theory, AC and DC drives and motors, servers
·  Experience developing software using Matlab/Simulink and C/C++
·  Experience in PLC Programming Packages such as P80i, GEMCAD, S7, RsLogix, CodeSys, etc
·  Experience in designing and modifying SCADA packages such as Wonderware Archestra, iFix, Cimplicity, Proficy Machine Edition, Citect, etc
·  Excellent written and verbal communication skills
·  Good report writing and presentation skills
·  Good personal organisational skills
·  Understands business objectives and can influence stakeholders to meet objectives
·  Displays strong interpersonal skills and is accessible and approachable
·  Willing to travel within base country and occasionally overseas
·  Industrial automation industry experience preferred
