Role Summary/Purpose

Manufacturing Engineering Interns are required to provide dedicated technical support to the Pressure production lines within the Leicester manufacturing facility. Successful candidates should expect to work in a fast-paced, customer focused production environment, providing quick and effective solutions to daily production issues whilst contributing to longer-term process improvements to drive productivity.
Essential Responsibilities

The products built in Leicester enter service in a diverse range of industries for critical applications, including Motorsport, Aerospace, Subsea Oil & Gas, Automotive, Petrochemical & Pharmaceutical.

Successful candidates will be given real life production or customer issues to resolve down to root cause. This may include:
• Designing, 3D printing and/or procuring tooling and assembly fixtures
• Writing documentation such as works instructions and technical reports
• Developing and delivering training packages to production operators
• Improving processes through use of automation and robotics
• Testing and diagnosing electronic faults
• Developing and validating new processes
• Introducing new products into existing production lines
• Updating SAP (ERP system) data using Engineering Change
In addition to day to day support activities, Manufacturing Engineering interns are given a project (either group or individual) to drive an impact at functional level to the business. Previous examples include:
• Using a Collaborative Robot (Cobot) to automate part of a production process
• Working closely with a key supplier to improve reliability of critical parts through an automated production process
• Developing a 3D printed robotic solution to manipulate sensors during product acceptance
• Working with a key Aerospace customer to develop LASER welding for use in airborne products
Where possible and aligned with business objectives, internships will be tailored to successful candidate’s career interests and engineering discipline.
Qualifications/Requirements

• Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering students
• Understanding of Manufacturing processes (Machining, Welding, Injection Moulding, Electronics Assembly and Soldering techniques etc)
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact at all business levels both verbally and in written communication.
• Basic 3D CAD experience (Mechanical - Solidworks preferred)
• Ability to read, understand and generate technical drawings, documents and reports
• Understanding of stress and strain and materials science in particular when applied to pressure piping/vessels (Mechanical)
• Understanding of Analogue electronics, including Wheatstone bridge, operational amplifiers and transistors (Electronics)
• Driven self-starter who can apply initiative and work autonomously within the wider manufacturing engineering team
• Strong willingness to learn and ask relevant questions
• Proficiency with MS Office Applications (Word/Excel/Powerpoint)
• Eligibility to work view ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) restricted data (aerospace/instruments product lines only)
