Application Architect

Position Description
We have an immediate requirement for an Application Architect to develop the conceptual, logical and physical solution architecture to support the delivery of solution components within various projects, ensuring business requirements are met, while aligning with the Organization’s Enterprise Architecture principles and Cyber Security standards.

Your future duties and responsibilities
Responsibilities:

• Participate in all phases of the project life cycle to implement the required information technology, adding technical know-how, creativity and a seasoned perspective to initiatives and teams

• Play the role of the lead technical authority and responsible for planning all activities leading to the development of the solution architecture

• Develop architectural framework and design for solution components to support both new project delivery, or maintenance and enhancement efforts, ensuring that data, infrastructure and application architectures are aligned

• Define and document the solution architecture structure, connections and relationships with security interfaces, business applications, data, and user interfaces

• Identify technical issues and risks and define mitigation approach

• Work closely with Subject Matter Experts to confirm the detail design of each solution component and integration among components; as well as coordinate the implementation of the detail design

• Work with the Organization’s Enterprise Architecture group to apply standards

• Work with the Organization’s Cyber Security group to apply Cyber Security standards

• Present and seek approval for proposed design from the Organization’s different governing bodies

Required qualifications to be successful in this role

• University Degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience

• Minimum of five years of working experience in developing application architectures, with strong knowledge of principles and best practices in software architecture, and architectural/design patterns and frameworks

• A minimum of three years working with enterprise mission critical / high availability application architecture/technologies

Professional / People Skills Required:

• Ability to organize content and write in a style appropriate to the audience and to the purpose of the document

• Ability to think beyond the work environment and make decisions in the context of the total environment

• Ability to work well with project resources in multiple levels within an enterprise organization

• Strong business acumen, including the ability to translate business needs into infrastructure solutions

• Ability to be self-motivated and to work under general supervision

• Ability to quickly grasp the essence of a complex issue and to synthesize data/views to capture and communicate key points

Assets:

• experience working with a modern DevOps tool chain based on Jenkins, Git and Nexus
• experience designing cloud-ready (12-factor) containerized applications for a modern deployment platform based on RedHat OpenShift
• exposure to diverse work environments, with a broad understanding of multiple business sectors, hardware and software technologies and IT security

• recognized IT industry certification such as TOGAF

• knowledge of leading vendor platforms, such as Cisco, Oracle, Microsoft, RedHat and IBM
