The Opportunity:

 

Within the professional services environment, the application of risk management procedures is fundamental to the successful delivery of our client services and promotion of our brand.  Risk management encompasses the internal policies and processes that we have in place to ensure that we support the client-serving team deliver service quality, contain the threat of litigation against the firm, limit damage to our reputation and achieve full fee recovery. 

 

At EY, our Risk Management (RM) and Legal departments are responsible for the promotion and support of internal risk management within the business.  They act as the firm’s second line of defence and aim to ensure that the firm complies with the rules and regulations imposed either by external regulators or by EY Global (our global head office) in relation to the conduct of our business.

 

The Central RM and Legal teams have approximately 70 members of staff. We also use resources in various off-shore locations. RM is split into three sub-teams: Independence, Risk and Business Resilience. In addition, there is a network within our service lines (“Service Line Quality”), located throughout the UK and Ireland and a team of approximately 30 dedicated to supporting the business with the completion of client due diligence (CDD) under the UK’s money laundering regulations.

 

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Financial Crime team (which is part of RM’s Risk team) as a Senior Associate, helping to fulfil its responsibilities to execute EY’s risk strategy, policies andprocesses in relation to anti-money laundering, client due diligence and ongoing monitoring. The role is a fixed term contract for 12 months.

 

Key Responsibilities

  

Your main responsibilities relate to the provision of specialist support in implementing the firm’s anti-money laundering policies, procedures and controls. The primary task is to conduct ongoing monitoring for the higher risk client population including:

 

· 
Reviewing and updating as necessary existing CDD

· 
Performing research on clients using public and subscription services

· 
Contacting Engagement Partners and clients to request CDD where this cannot be gathered internally

· 
Drafting recommendations for management to summarise client risk and identifying any mitigating factors

· 
Maintaining and updating guidance and training material relating to ongoing monitoring

· 
Responding to requests for information and queries from the first line (EY’s service lines that include Assurance, Consultancy, Tax and Transaction Advisory)

· 
Maintaining guidance and training material relating to CDD, suspicious activity reporting, anti-bribery and sanctions

· 
Reviewing approval requests for High risk CDD cases escalated by the centralised function 

· 
Assisting with the production of management information reports for internal stakeholders

· 
Any task which contributes to the successful implementation of the financial crime control framework

This role will suit a person with good knowledge fromtwo to threeyears of experience working on financial crime controls in a regulated industry.  On the job training will be provided.

To qualify for the role, you must have:

·  Two to three years of previous experience of financial crime regulatory or compliance work, preferably from a professional services firm
·  Experience of completing CDD checks and/or performing ongoing monitoring
·  Knowledge and previous use of financial crime screening and due diligence systems
·  Adaptable and flexible with good team working skills and the ability to multi-task

Ideally, you’ll also have

 

·  Ability to build strong working relationships across the business and develop an excellent understanding of their business
·  Ability to work to pre-determined deadlines and meet objectives under pressure
·  English language skills - excellent written and verbal communication
·  IT skills including proficiency in Microsoft applications, particularly Excel
