The Role: Performance Engineer

 

Purpose

Provides analysis for technical operation reviews, reporting, and test results to increase plant efficiency. Maintains and improves plant data historian for tracking plant performance. Provides evaluation of external plant utilities consumption, plant performance, economic operation, and energy management. Provides analysis of individual equipment operating efficiency. Works closely with the Operations staff to identify plant operating improvement opportunities and to develop optimal plant operating conditions.

Essential Job Functions

·  Develops data for implementation of energy management program with the prime objective of improving plant reliability and performance necessary to satisfy current and future customer needs. Provides operating data to evaluate energy savings projects.
·  Implements the plant performance program, including testing and monitoring of plant equipment. Issues daily, weekly and monthly reports including recommendations for plant optimization. Conducts performance meetings to explain the operating and maintenance results for the previous day/month. Meets with the operations department daily to review historical efficiency and recommend operations strategy.
·  Maintains monthly metrics and KPI data.
·  Maintains plant data for state and federal government agency environmental and energy reporting.
·  Maintain and improve the OSI PI plant data historian system. Generates tag deviation reports for calibration/replacement of inaccurate devices. Insure historical plant operating data is secure and accurate.
·  Maintain accurate technical billing (usage) records for customer utilities through the data historian. Continuously evaluate customer metering for accuracy and recommend improvements.
·  Develops detailed plant performance models and plant load management calculations in order to provide operations with recommendations and operational guidelines to optimize the plant.
·  Provide data historian operating condition analysis support for the engineering department during implementation of plant improvement engineering projects.
·  Must observe and comply with all standard safety codes and practices, perform work in accordance with recognized trade and company standards and, where applicable, local, state, and federal laws.

Requirements

·  Strong interpersonal communication skills required. 
·  Requires individual with a high degree of professionalism.  
·  Ability to work well independently, and effectively with others, on a daily basis. Successful candidate will also be detail oriented, able to take direction and handle multiple tasks, prioritize work effectively, and see a work project through to completion.
·  A willingness to acquire new skills and utilize technology to streamline processes and problem solve is essential. 
·  Training and background in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, electrical systems, and /or system modeling. 

Essential Physical Abilities

·  Ability to meet highest attendance requirements
·  Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally.
·  Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy.
·  Ability to use personal computer, calculator, etc.
·  Could involve some lifting.
·  Must be able to work internally in the physical plant and externally on the facility’s grounds or at satellite facilities.

Education/Experience

·  Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering required
·  Minimum of two (2) years in performance analysis related area, preferable in the power industry. 
·  Proven success in data analysis and reporting of energy management and performance programs. 
·  Professionalengineer’s registration desired.
