Department:

EDF Trading Markets Limited is the Paris Branch of EDF Trading and provides the base for the European Optimisation business. The optimisation of the EDF SA production assets on the European wholesale markets as well as EDFT proprietary trading on the short term European electricity market is conducted on a 24/7 basis from the Paris branch.

The Optimisation and Trading Analytics Team is located predominantly in the Paris Branch. The core purpose of the team (8 people) is the development of complex market forecasting models and asset optimisation tools to support EDF Group portfolio optimisation and EDF Trading proprietary activity with a focus on the European power markets. The team efforts are directed towards both the Paris based activity in the short term electricity markets as well as the longer term horizon and other commodities traded from London. The team works in close proximity with the trading desks and analysts in both locations.
Position purpose:

The Data Scientist will be in charge of the design and development of optimisation and trading applications with a strong impact on the business with a particular focus on short term power markets. We are looking for a motivated individual with good technical skills and interest in the energy sector and commodities trading. This position would suit a candidate looking to start or progress their data science/optimisation career.

Main responsibilities

o Design, develop and test Data Science models to support EDFT activities. Make the models available through tools and dashboards to ensure their results are fully leveraged.
o Present and explain the result of models to internal stakeholders, demonstrate the value created through pertinent back-testing and analysis
o Work in close collaboration with the trading desks and analysts to discuss results and identify model improvement opportunities
o Participate to the improvement of the team existing processes, tools and models to increase performance and reliability of applications

Hours of work: 210 days worked per year

Experience and technical requirements:

Essential requirements:

- Good working knowledge of Data Science techniques
- Strong programming skills (in Python or another relevant language)
- Higher education degree in a quantitative subject (Maths, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, ...)
- Interest in energy markets

Beneficial requirements:

- Experience of power markets (modelling, asset optimisation, portfolio management, trading)
- Knowledge of optimisation techniques (linear programing, mixed integer programming)
- Experience in Java, SQL and noSQL databases, web technologies for front-end development
