About the job

As Legal and Compliance Counsel your main responsibilities and task will revolve around:

·  Legal Advice: Provide timely counsel on a wide range of legal matters for our four categories being dairy, plant-based, waters and specialized nutrition in Belgium and Luxembourg. Support includes counsel to the two Belgian factories (Wevelgem & Rotselaar). Legal counsel should not only be reactive, but also pro-active by looking out for opportunities to unlock value in our business.
·  Risk Assessment: Evaluate and mitigate legal risks, taking the Danone business priorities into account.
·  Compliance policy monitoring: monitor internal governance policies to ensure compliance.
·  Contract Drafting: Draft, review and negotiate agreements and other legal documents.
·  Ethics and Integrity: Uphold the highest ethical standards in all legal interactions and enforce ethics and integrity policies
·  Complex Problem-Solving: Navigate intricate legal challenges while aligning with business goals.

In the role you will be expected to:

·  Balance priorities : prioritize legal requirements while considering business realities and goals. 
·  Navigate complexity : address evolving legal landscapes with clarity and precision.
·  Adaptive counsel : Ability to give clear counsel without having all information at hand.
·  Motivate the business to abide by certain legal & compliance limitations that might change their plans.

·  Strategic Agility : Ability to adapt legal strategies to dynamic business contexts.
·  Effective Communication : Translate legal intricacies into actionable and simple counsel for the business.

About you

We prioritize skills, competencies, and relevant experiences over the number of years worked. Here are the key attributes we value.

·  Thorough understanding of regulations and laws : A strong grasp of legal frameworks, both domestic and international, is essential. Candidates should stay updated through webinars, legal briefings, and continuous learning.
·  Experience: Ideally you bring 1-4 years of experience as a legal counsel, preferably within the food industry and you have a Belgian law degree. A first bar-experience as well as interest or experience in IT-contracting/GDPR and Legal Operations is considered a plus.

·  Analytical mindset: : The ability to dissect complex legal issues, identify patterns, and propose effective solutions in comprehensible language for the business.
·  Problem-Solving Skills: Approaching challenges as opportunities for creative and pragmatic solutions. You can come up with creative solutions to solve problems, taking into account business risks
·  Communication Skills : clear, concise, and effective communication—both written and verbal.
·  Ethical Integrity : Upholding the highest ethical standards in decision-making.
·  Adaptability and Flexibility : navigating changing legal landscapes and adjusting strategies accordingly.
·  Negotiation Abilities : Skillful negotiation in legal matters, whether with external parties or internal stakeholders.
·  Thinking Outside the Box and Creativity : Innovating within legal boundaries to find novel approaches.
·  Ability to balancing high-level perspectives with attention to detail. You balance must-haves and nice-to-haves based on business &, strategic or financial priorities.
·  Proactivity : Handle not only reactive, but also proactive. Try to spot challenges and opportunities to mitigate risk and create value.
·  Language: You are fluent in Dutch, English and French (professional working capacity).
