Associate Packaging Engineer

Happy Family Organics is looking for an Associate Packaging Engineer to join the Research & Innovation team in Boise, Idaho. This position will report to the Sr. Packaging Development Manager and will assist in the development and commercialization of new packaging solutions across a wide range of product and packaging formats. Ability to apply packaging science and technology principles to new packaging development and current packaging improvements and maintenance.

Job Responsibilities

·  Assist with the development of new packaging formats focusing on innovation, sustainability and value.
·  Perform packaging engineering activities associated with package design, process development, and specifications for primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging.
·  Organize and lead packaging trials at manufacturing facilities as needed.
·  Interpret packaging specifications and analyze functional test data to determine deviations vs. manufacturing errors.
·  Provide technical support to trouble key packaging quality or manufacturing issues.
·  Assist sales in the development of displays, club packs, etc. to bring innovation, quality and value to the market.
·  Effectively collaborate with cross-functional team members including Purchasing, R&I, Project Management, Sales/Marketing, Production, and Quality.
·  Collaborate and build effective partnerships with suppliers and manufacturers.
·  Support cross-functional team to assess technical risks at each project stage gate and build mitigation plan when needed.
·  In partnership with Quality, support or lead technical visits and qualifications of supplier sites in the US (<10% travel). Follow-up with reports and action plans.

Qualifications and Experience

·  Bachelor of Science in Packaging Engineering or Material Science, or relevant technical experience; degree preferred.
·  Clear understanding of packaging design, materials, equipment and systems.
·  Knowledge of packaging and printing methods preferred.
·  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
·  Gather and analyze data skillfully to formulate action plans and follow-through to completion.
·  Organized and process oriented with strong attention to detail.
·  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
·  Self-starterwith demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities.
