DEFINITION

To consult with contractors, engineers, architects and the public concerning the acceptability of drawings submitted for approval to build within the City; to review building and structural plans and specifications for conformance to building codes, laws, ordinances and regulations; and to perform a variety of related duties as assigned. Assignments may include working at the front counter, performing Over the Counter: plan checks, receive and exercise QA on all completed submittals.

Receives direction from the Building Inspection/Plan Check Supervisor and may receive technical training and guidance from the Sr. Plan Check Engineer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION STATEMENTS-Essential duties may include the following

1. Provide exemplary customer service to all individuals by demonstrating a willingness to be attentive, understanding, responsive, fair, courteous and respectful and to actively participate in maintaining positive customer service environment.
2. Review plans for conformance to various building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and structural codes and regulations.
3. Review specifications and calculations of building plans; consult with originator when needed to clarify or make corrections as needed.
4. Aid the public, contractors, engineers and architects on building code inquiries; recommend corrective action.
5. Inform contractors, engineers and architects of problems in a plan’s conformance to codes; assist in resolving issues within the scope of assignment.
6. Insure the accountability and accuracy of building permit routing process including maintaining and updating building permit data into the computer database.
7. Act as a staff liaison to other agencies and/or divisions; attend a variety of meetings on plans examination actives.
8. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
