Basic Purpose of the position:

· To provide general support in the analysis of samples, to perform sample preparation and to analyze the sample.
· To extract and/or analyze samples for the Food Chemistry analysis.

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

· To perform the extraction of the assigned Food Chemistry analysis in accordance with the SOP.
· To setup glassware and the station for the extraction.
· To verify volumetric devices and other equipment when required.
· To prepare assigned reagents and/or standards when required.
· To analyze and report (in LIMS) all results from the assigned gravimetric analysis.
· To monitor and order supplies for use in the extraction.
· General lab support including washing glassware, archiving samples.
· Ensure that cross contamination between samples and other materials does not occur.
· Use summary reports to plan and organize work.
· Follow all laboratory safety rules and regulations.
· Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) to ensure accuracy and quality of work.
· Keep their work area clean, neat and organized.

Other responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.

Skills and Know-how:

· Minimum of a diploma in Chemical Technology from an approved institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Good record keeping skills and attention to detail.
· Ability to accurately follow Standard operating Procedures (SOP’s) and instructions.
· Dynamic, energetic, motivated, positive outlook, and a 'can-do' attitude.

Work Relationships:

· Internal: This position involves daily contact with coworkers to exchange information, and with their supervisor for scheduling, instructions and training.
· External: N/A.

Working Conditions:

· Analysts are expected to perform repetitive physical work using a variety of machines and equipment as required and according to deadlines established by their supervisor.
· The job requires flexible working hours and shift work.
· Hazardous materials are handled using established safety procedures and appropriate equipment.
