JOB DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the Fire Assay Supervisor, the Fire Assay Technician is responsible for the processing of client samples by following set procedures and safe practices.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Carry out fire assay procedures in accordance with documented SOP’s or recognized standard reference methods.
· Report any deviation from documented procedures to the Fire Assay Supervisor and that approval is obtained prior to reporting any analytical result.
· Inform the Fire Assay Supervisor of any non-conforming event related to client samples, analytical testing or other laboratory operations.
· Inform the Fire Assay Supervisor of any unsafe conditions in the department.
· Act in a safe and professional manner and wear appropriate attire including the required personal protective equipment (PPE).
· Ensure proper functioning of fire assay operations by:
· Monitoring the performance of the instruments
· Ensuring adequate inventory of laboratory consumable supplies and chemicals
· Practicing good housekeeping.
· Communicate general laboratory issues to the fire assay supervisor as appropriate.
· Perform other duties as required by management.
· Submit to testing for lead exposure on a regular basis.
