Job Description 

 

Entry to mid-level analytical position in a fast-paced industrial hygiene laboratory.  Analyst is responsible for analysis of crystalline silica samples by X-ray diffraction, and analysis of nuisance dusts by gravimetrics, following established methodology; this is not a research position.
Duties include: set-up of client samples for analysis, preparation of samples using solvents, analysis of samples using X-ray generating equipment, data entry and review, basic instrument maintenance, and general laboratory housekeeping.

 

Job Requirement
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, or Geology, or closely related field, with some applicable analytical experience.  

 

Also required:
Ability to follow established protocols for analysis and safety.  Comfort working with/around solvents and radiation-generating equipment, using required PPE.  Availability for overtime work on evenings and weekends to meet client workload demands.  Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.  Ability to work independently and in a team environment.  Willingness to cross-train in other laboratory departments, as needed.   Ability to maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment.

 

Preferred, but not required:
Coursework in mineralogy/crystallography.  Familiarity with X-ray diffraction techniques.  Familiarity with standard laboratory equipment, including but not limited to:  analytical balances, pipettes, chemical exhaust hoods, and laboratory ovens/furnaces.
