Light Duty Material Prep Engineer (2100353) – Huntsville, AL

Where the Chemistry Happens

We are seeking a professional like you to be responsible for optimizing the performance of all Light Duty Material Prep production lines and processes while achieving the highest quality and process discipline. In this role, you will support Operators to minimize cycle time, downtime and scrap, as well as two-way coordination of work with other departments such as Quality, Maintenance and Engineering.  You will also work with the Supervisor to maintain a high level of safety for everyone on the shift.  Additional responsibilities will include projects, investigations and being a backup for Supervisors.

This is an excellent opportunity for you to develop in depth knowledge of the Material Prep processes and product requirements and gain base level experience for future higher-level engineering roles or leadership roles.

Formula for Success

Leveraging your education in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial preferred) and manufacturing experience, you will provide primary engineering support for a 24/7 operation.   Using your strong knowledge of process safety, you will support process and behavioral safety by upholding high standards on the shift, contributing to safety improvements and investigating safety incidents. Utilizing your solid knowledge of manufacturing processes and process control, you will optimize all Material Prep production and process lines for quality and cycle time.  Additionally, you will give feedback to relevant departments on issues and bottlenecks and help to support data collection and ideas or improvement. Your exposure to Lean Six Sigma principles and your ability to collaborate well with others will be essential as you minimize downtime on the Material Prep lines through changeover optimization using Lean principles, and from Mechanical or Processing issues by interfacing with Maintenance and Process Engineering to report problems and implement solutions. Working as a team player, you will serve as backup for the Shift Supervisor, including prioritizing work and allocating people to required jobs/tasks.  Your superior written and verbal communication skills will be a valued asset as you assist in shift production training for the implementation of new equipment, processes, and requirement updates as needed.  Relying on your experience with human machine interfaces (HMIs) and Batch Manufacturing combined with your high level of proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, you will work to minimize downtime on the Material Prep lines via complete projects that support innovation and continuous improvement. Your commitment to compliance and safety will be evident as you act responsibly and in compliance with all regulatory, customer and company requirements.
