Biometrician (2001723) – Research Triangle Park, NC

Where the Chemistry Happens 

We are looking for a Biometrician who will provide biometrics support to the soybean breeding programs globally. This includes breeders in the United States and Brazil. In this role, you will support the design, planning, optimization and analysis of commercial soybean breeding. You will also contribute to the development, implementation and operational use of molecular breeding processes by performing data analysis tasks and developing analysis tools with limited supervision.

Formula for Success  

Field trial design support for all breeding stations. Multi-environment field trial data analysis for all soybean breeding programs for all important traits. Assist in the development of genomic selection models and providing predictions for breeding decisions. Contribute to the development of new algorithms for prediction. Train and support breeders in experimental design and data analysis activities. Contribute to building the internal critical mass on molecular breeding and quantitative genetics. Work closely with soybean breeders, head of soybean breeding, head of soybean discovery breeding, soybean manager, and head of Biometrics. Interacting with Breeding and other members of the Crop Genetics and Biometrics team to develop and implement methods to support breeding decisions for soybean. Interact with IT and informatics support groups. Self-motivating individual with excellent interpersonal skills: collaborative, cultivates innovation, problem solver, curious. Ph.D. degree in statistics or quantitative genetics, or Master degree with minimum 3-5 years of experience in applied statistics in plant breeding. Strong mixed modelling skills with experience with asreml. Excellent knowledge of plant breeding with practical work experience. Expertise in statistical software (e.g., R, Bayesian computing). Creative and innovative mindset. Good reporting and communication. Ability to work in a multicultural environment.
