Principal Engineer – System Design
Would you like to be part of one of the most complex engineering undertakings ever? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer – System Design at our site in Frimley.
As a Principal Engineer – System Design, you will be working on a novel, multi-discipline, multi-subject matter, safety system project, providing you with an excellent opportunity to influence the design and operation of the UK’s fleet of submarines, both in-service and future classes.
Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer – System Design will involve:
Authoring System Requirements Specifications and Subsystem Technical Specifications
Participation in, and/or management of, trade studies defining performance requirements
Authoring Subsystem Design Descriptions
Producing and agreeing Platform installation data
Liaising with Platform Teams
Technical management of equipment suppliers
Providing support to Verification and Validation activities
Providing support to Transverse (non-functional) requirement owners, e.g. Safety, Information Assurance, Availability, Reliability, Maintainability and Testability
Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Engineer – System Design:
Demonstrable experience in systems engineering including design work
Experience in Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
DOORS requirements management experience
Experience in high Safety Integrity Level (SIL) design practices for both hardware and software
Experience in high availability design practices for both hardware and software
It would also be beneficial if your skills and experience included:
Knowledge of BAE Systems lifecycle model and technical artefacts needed for lifecycle reviews
Experienced in the use of Enterprise Architect
Experience of working in a high Safety Integrity Level (SIL) project team
Knowledge of submarine, or surface ship, or air command and control systems
Knowledge of sonar processing and display, chart data presentation, navigation data sensors, camera imagery processing and imagery presentation

Maritime – Submarines
Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.
The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes.
Dreadnought is the successor to the Vanguard class of nuclear deterrent submarines. We will deliver four submarines to the Royal Navy, with the first submarine entering service in the early 2030s. Dreadnought is widely considered to be one of the world's most complex engineering challenges.
