Chemical Design Engineer

Would you like to play a pivotal role developing complex munition products for the MOD? We currently have a vacancy for a Chemical Design Engineer at our site in Glascoed.

As a Chemical Design Engineer, you will be working within a small team as part of the Heavy Munitions business area. Heavy Munitions support a range of products including artillery, tanks, propellant charges and Naval products. More specifically, you will be working on the development of a new charge system for the MOD.

This role will provide you with the unique opportunity to work on an exciting project developing the next ammunition system for the MOD, ensuring safer systems for the end user. The newly redeveloped Glascoed site offers excellent staff facilities and benefits including a gym, football courts, as well as bespoke training courses and support for chartership and higher education.

Your main responsibilities as a Chemical Design Engineer will involve:

Design, development, test and evaluation activities of new and legacy propelling charges

Conducting and managing trials in a safe and suitable manner, from the trials planning stage to completion of the trial and presentation of the data

Development and use safe systems of work for engineering tasks

Interfacing with suppliers, both internal and external, to ensure that development activities are completed to time and schedule

Development of quality systems

Contributing to the Life Cycle Management process, where required

Contributing to the Risk Management process

Liaising with customers, both internal and external, as appropriate

Your skills and qualifications as a Chemical Design Engineer:

Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent qualification or experience)

Experience of hazard identification, risk assessment and mitigation in support of trial or test activities

Proven ability to take ownership, prioritise and deliver objectives within development projects to ensure completion within agreed time-scales and to required standard

IT literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office

Salary: £32,285+ commensurate with skills and experience
