An excellent opportunity has arisen to join our Underwriting teams based in Belfast.

We are looking for an expert, dynamic Commercial Mid-Market Trading Underwriter to help the team, and supports the Manager in delivering the team financial performance.

Duties & Responsibilities:

·  Develop, build and strengthen relationships with aligned customers/brokers, providing technical support and assistance
·  Understands what matters to the customer/broker and how that fits with the teams plans and strategies
·  Maintain visibility in the marketplace
·  Proactively understands the customer and their needs
·  Provide the right solution for the customer at the right time, through the life cycle of the relationship
·  Pull on the right people to deliver the best outcome
·  Develop an expertise where necessary to meet customer demand
·  Make the right underwriting decisions, reflecting our strategy and the customer/broker value
·  Influence key contacts in the marketplace through business development/customer engagement skills
·  Lead, support and/or deliver initiatives or experiments to improve system performance across the business
·  Aligned to a portfolio of customers/brokers, dedicated to developing the commercial book of business
·  Responsible for underwriting profitable business whilst operating within agreed guidelines and authority level
·  Understand and act on the demand into the team, actively identifying ways to improve the system
·  Operate from the most appropriate location to meet business needs in line with customer demand (i.e. branch, home or broker location)
·  Responsible for your own underwriting caseload within a regulatory environment, following due process and within set authority limits

Skills and Experience:

You will already have good technical and commercial underwriting expertise.

·  Portfolio Management - Understands how individual case decision-making influences the overall team result, and uses this to trade a portfolio of cases where appropriate
·  Experience of applying underwriting knowledge to effectively improve processes/procedures
·  Possess the ability to analyse complex information and draw out the relevant facts
·  Excellent business development/customer engagement skills in order to influence key contacts in the marketplace
·  Excellent communication and strong negotiation skills, both written and verbally

·  Salary of £29,000 - £35,000 depending on skills, experience and qualifications
