Big Data Solution Architect

Job description

We are looking for a Big Data Solution Architect to join our growing team of Data and BI experts. Aviva has embarked on a journey to build next generation data platform to support the growing need of data from business intelligence and analytics perspectives.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for creating and developing solution designs for data acquisition/ingestion of varied data sets (internal/external), integration & data warehouse/data marts
  • Work may also encompass creating & developing data models – conceptual, logical and physical.
  • Work closely with business partners, stakeholders, functional experts, business analysts, contractors, and developers to understand the system requirements, system architecture to design solutions
  • Lead solution design discussions with internal and external stakeholders as relevant
  • Prepare solution design documentation
  • Assist in troubleshooting application problems where data, ETL, and reporting are integral elements
  • Provide guidance and advice on leading practices, industry standards and conventions, and frameworks and methods
  • Facilitate and/or participate in the build and implementation of technical solutions
  • Responsible for monitoring and ensuring that the data solutions adheres to enterprise data standards
  • Understanding of data warehouse principles, experience in designing, developing data warehouse objects
  • Understanding and experience with database design and implementation of multi-dimensional models
  • Understanding and experience in OLAP, reporting and analytics principles.
  • Entity Relationship analysis & modeling methodology
  • Lead product evaluations, POCs and project estimations based on agreed architecture
  • Communicate effectively with no ambiguity during project execution on solution design aligned with data strategy
  • Understand and articulate interdependencies, constraints of various existing/developing solutions to Data Engineers, project teams, business teams and stakeholders
  • Collaborate with other IT teams, Architecture teams in the organization as required, with vendor teams on an onsite/offshore model
  • Ensure a consistent approach and implementation of processes and technology in solution areas
  • Attend and/or deliver presentations at appropriate project gates and checkpoints during the project life cycle
  • Reduce technical risk by upskilling our scrum/project teams through mentoring and providing technical guidance across elements such as database best practices, coding guidelines, and naming conventions
  • Write adhoc queries for data analysis from the Enterprise Data Hub

Skills Required:

  • 8+ years of experience working as a solution designer in a Data / Business Intelligence teams building data lakes, warehouse & marts
  • 4+ years of experience in Insurance Property & Casualty domain
  • 3+ years of experience working with Big Data technologies
  • Strong knowledge of data solutions, data lakes (Cloudera), data warehouses, data marts
  • Excellent knowledge and experience in ETL with Informatica product suite
  • Experience/Knowledge Cloud Data Lake Design – pref AWS technologies like S3,EMR,Redshift etc
  • Experience in understanding and implementation of Data Governance principles
  • Experience in Agile and DevOps model of Data Application design, implementation and operations
  • Experience in leading multiple projects under a big program with 20+ team members
  • Excellent background of working with multiple databases – relational, dimensional, graph, unstructured/file based etc.
  • Experience in Master Data Management, Data Quality, Metadata management, data discovery design and implementation – Informatica product suite preferred
  • Excellent background in data architectural/data modeling work in previous job profiles
  • Strong application design and development skills, excellent communication skills with a strong emphasis on conceptualizing and designing architectures.
  • Experience with ACORD, IIW or SAS DDS data models will be an asset
  • Strong Data Analysis & Modeling skills
  • Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
  • Experience working in diverse multicultural environment with different vendors, onsite/offshore vendor teams etc.
