We are currently seeking top talent to join our Programs and Portfolio Management team at our downtown Toronto location. Are you looking to develop and grow, to build niche underwriting knowledge?

We have an opening for a Junior Commercial Underwriter, it requires some casualty and/or property experience, ideally with experience in programs at the Macro (program) and Micro (individual) level with provided authority.

As a Junior Underwriter on our Programs Healthcare team, your focus is to review and determine coverage terms and conditions and establish premium for review with Senior Underwriter or Segment Manager, to produce balanced profit for assigned programs.

Prepare concise referrals including recommended action for renewals and new business beyond authority. You will participate in terms and conditions negotiations of coverage including pricing on renewals, new business quotes and other midterm requests with Brokers.

Conduct Broker/Insured sales calls on key programs for both renewals and new business to build a climate of partnership and negotiation to promote the value of Aviva and support the Aviva Commercial Value Proposition.

Maintaining awareness of market trends/conditions with respect to price levels and legal trends on program segments, and of broker management initiatives.

A Self-Review process is a requirement, as is the broker audits.

Accountabilities:

You will review medium hazard New Program Submissions for acceptance within our current company guidelines and Pricing strategy.

·  Develop and negotiate terms and pricing for presentation to our Broker partners to write sustainable profitable business.
·  Build and maintain proven business relationships with our Broker partners by promoting Aviva products, and emphasis on service levels.
·  You will work toward finding opportunities for growth, including new business and renewal updates of Healthcare business.
·  Review of mid-term requests/changes on medium healthcare accounts/programs
·  Provide instructions for issuance of new business as well as renewals.
·  Participate in the Branch Self Review and Broker Audits after process and/or our Head Office National Commercial Underwriting review process as required
·  Provide feedback and support to the Segment Manager as required.

Required Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:

·  Minimum 1 year' experience in property and casualty underwriting, preferably with exposure and knowledge in Healthcare.
·  Strong analytical skills.
·  Effective use of time management and the ability to be a self starter.
·  Excellent interpersonal skills, and overall communication style and approach. Including familiarity with software for account analysis, preparation of presentations, reports and exhibits (i.e. excel, Word and powerpoint programs)
·  Sales/negotiation skills including an aptitude for “face to face” communication with brokers and insureds.
·  CIP designation or enrollment is helpful
·  Bachelors degree is a plus.
