Aviva Life and Pensions Ireland are now accepting applications for the position of Head of Actuarial Function.

Reporting to the Aviva Life and Pensions Ireland (ALPIDAC) Chief Financial Officer the successful applicant for this position will play a unique and critical role in ensuring the financial security and soundness of an insurer, having responsibility for determining insurance liabilities and advising on capital needs.

The HoAF is responsible for fulfilling the requirements of the Actuarial Function as defined by the Solvency II regulations in Article 48, leading the Unit Pricing Governance Forum and Chairing the Risk and Governance Forum across the Finance and Actuarial teams. This role will also offer the opportunity to lead out on a finance and actuarial governance programme.

Ensuring that fair treatment of customers is defined and embedded into all activities of the function you will have a significant influence over the customer culture of the company, through your behaviour and values you will aim to deliver fair customer outcomes. This role will have a dotted-line reporting into the Board Audit Committee and ALPIDAC CEO and will have CBI PCF48 accountability.

The HoAF is responsible for:

· 
Providing an independent sign-off of the completeness and accuracy of Technical Provisions calculations, for all metrics (not just Solvency II). This includes signing off methodologies and assumptions and signing off the resultant best estimate provisions. 

· 
Providing an ALPIDACI specific interpretation of Solvency II and Group Actuarial requirements. Where any waivers or dispensations from Group Business Standards are required, agree these with Group. The HoAF will be required to review and challenge Group requirements to ensure they are appropriate to ALPIDACI.

· 
Overseeing outsourced activities, both internal and external. 

· 
Ensuring Compliance with CBI Domestic Actuarial Regime (DAR)

· 
Advising Board on With Profit Governance including requirements arising under DAR

· 
Advising ALPIDAC with regard to “Life Disclosure” requirements

· 
Advising Board on PRE and ensure TPs allow for interpretation

· 
Leading and driving culture change and development in their area, developing capability and ensuring succession.

· 
Being a proactive member of the Risk senior leadership team, contributing and delivering beyond their direct team.

Qualifications

· 
Qualified Actuary and member of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland or similar international body.

· 
Holds appropriate Actuarial Practicing Certificate where relevant

· 
Recognised PCF holder

Skills and Experience

· 
Substantial years post-qualification in a key finance management role.

· 
Substantial years post qualification experience of advising on With Profit Funds

· 
Leading an Actuarial team within a large business.

· 
Breadth and depth of experience should include experience in valuing the assets and liabilities of insurers

· 
Detailed understanding of the Ireland life insurance and other appropriate FOS & FOE markets, including financial regulation.

· 
Effective communication skills.

· 
Broad understanding of all financial disciplines i.e. accounting and investment.  

· 
Market and commercial knowledge.  

· 
Highly numerate and analytical with a developed capability to interpret data and establish alternatives and solutions to complex problems.

· 
A detailed knowledge of relevant statutory, legal and regulatory frameworks and corporate governance.

· 
Understand the needs of our end customers.

· 
Ability to motivate and lead a team through change

· 
Personal impact and gravitas, relationship management and influencing skills with people at all levels with the ability to build credible working relationships.
