Job description

The National Commercial Insurance, Enablement team has an exciting opportunity to join the team. As a Business Analyst, you are is responsible for handling needs assessments to align technology with the Commercial Insurance business strategies. You will bring both system knowledge and analytical skills in the implementation of rating and system modifications, using the enterprise rating system (Ratabase). You will manage the planning and implementation of Ratabase express changes, and will apply proven communication, project planning and problem-solving skills in this endeavour.

Accountabilities:

  • Development of underwriting rules and rate change logic in Ratabase
  • Review, analyze, debug, modify and test Ratabase code to fix production incidents
  • Planning and Implementation of small Ratabase changes
  • Query databases to collect, interpret and analyze data
  • Write technical documents to describe configuration of applications and operating procedures to liaison with 3rd party web services
  • Create systems models, specifications, diagrams, and charts
  • Work closely with the Team Leader, and Business Stakeholders to understand the functional and system requirements.
  • Translate business issues/challenges and objectives into viable quality technical documentation and be able to recommend alternative solutions to customers.
  • Identify impacts on business processes based on detailed solutions and strategies.
  • Be able to identify when changes to the policy systems will affect other downstream systems (i.e. Claims, Case Manager, Publishing System etc)
  • Test all changes prior to implementation to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Be able to provide estimates for all projects and tasks assigned.
  • Follow Agile methodology for all system implementations, including use of JIRA and attending daily scrums.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements in the department.
  • Ensure delivery of work meets customer satisfaction through the use of project management practices including change management, release management and retrospective reviews.

Required Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • 3 to 4 years' insurance/underwriting experience is an asset
  • Experience with Agile delivery methods
  • Experience in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Demonstration of Project Management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio
  • Good background in Data Base design in Microsoft SQL and Access
  • Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing data (example: Excel, SAS, Access)
  • Knowledge of industry tools and best practices e.g. SDLC, use cases
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting packages (Business Objects, databases (SQL, etc), programming (C++, Javascript, ETLs)
  • Ratabase Programming experience is a huge advantage for this role
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage changing priorities
  • College or University Degree
