Are you ready for a challenging internship in the fields of optimizing business processes?

Working environment

You will be working within the Finance department of Atos. This department is split in the following main activities: Controlling, Treasury and Finance Operations.

The internship

This internship opportunity will focus on predictive analytics to optimize productivity, financial, and business planning of the workforce. Atos is a leading company in delivering digital services to its clients, for which it develops and manages a large number of IT projects. These projects require an optimal match between the financial planning and the operational planning.

Financial planning is about how much hours the project is planned for, how many professional are needed, what skills are required, etc. This simply leads to both a profit and loss account. The operational planning is about managing the workforce and timelines of the projects from start to finish. The planning of a new project is supported by forecasting productivity and performance of current projects. Performance is quantified by the mentioned profit and loss accounts, while productivity is related (amongst others) to utilization (and inactivity) of human resources.

There are ample data available on planning and execution in terms of productivity and performance of past projects that were monitored continuously. The internship is about investigating how predictive analytics can be used to learn from these data, and develop better forecasting and optimization tools. Techniques that are useful come from datamining, and machine learning for detection and visualization of patterns and trends, from econometrics for statistical forecasting, and from operations research for optimizing planning.

Are you the ideal candidate?

This internship is fit for a Master’s degree student specializing in Econometrics and Operations Research. You are analytical, alert, structured and punctual. Because you will be working in an international environment, you have to have a full proficiency in English.

What Atos offers you

This thesis includes a period of approximately 4-6 months. Start date is September 2017. During this internship, you will be guided directly by one of the team members for day to day and operational questions. You have easy access to the worldwide knowledge of Atos, which you can access through our Enterprise Social Network (BlueKiwi). You are welcome on all of the department- and competence meetings at our Head office in Amstelveen where you will be based.
