Our Engineering teams build new tech in greenfield status across several digital channels such as our Website (1B yearly visits), In Store Digital Tablets (12M+ monthly users), Mobile Apps (6M+ downloads) and 900 Retail Stores. Typical Technologies in our stack for this role:

Android Mobile Apps written in Java 1.7 & 1.8, using the best in-class and cutting edge open source libraries such as Dagger2, Retrofit, Picasso, RxJava, ButterKnife, Autovalue, Realm, Google support and design libraries. We use Junit and Expresso for designer tests whilst collaborating closely with the teams SDETS who are using Mockito and Cucumber tests in a TDD/BDD approach. We keep track of everything using git, Jira & Confluence.

Team task:

Building first class, quality code for our in-store colleagues and customer facing tools and services which include the following:

• Our brand new In Store Digital Browser that is based on a native Android tablet.

• Android based customer and colleague facing apps to support Click & Collect on android tablets and PDAs

• Integration with our order and inventory management algorithm services to support Same Day and Fast Track Delivery

• Building advanced product search roadmap architectures to ensure customers are getting what they need and when

they want it as soon as possible.

Challenges we're excited about tackling:

Creating an in-house solution for implementing colleague alerts for out Click & Collect solution. This will reduce ongoing operating costs and reduce the number of mobile devices required in-store
Adding support for more click and collect parcel sources in our in-house solution in addition to Argos and TU@Argos for collection points across Argos and Sainsbury’s.
Continuing to enhance the digital browsing experience in our Argos stores.

We are looking for people with:

Experience with MVP or similar pattern
Experience with Realm or other ORM/DB
Experience with one or more other 3rd party libraries that we use such as RxJava, Butterknife, AutoValue, Retrolambda
Experience with Node.js is a plus
Seeing unit and espresso tests as part of your workflow
Thorough understanding and passion for native Android UI/UX
Drive to learn new skills, contribute to the team and to improve
Agile experience is a plus
