Title of internship:

Study the link between metallic surface microgeometry and final paint appearance

Subject of the internship:

The automotive market requirements on aspect after painting are increasing in the last years due to new painting systems that are used by carmakers. Carmakers are thus introducing new criteria to be fulfilled by steel sheets for exposed parts and new tools are also developed to enable measurement of Paint appearance using numerical values. ArcelorMittal developed knowledge on this topic and promoted new products to answer these needs. The student will measure some criteria of the surface, using different tools (classical profilometer, optical devices). The student will have to consider process parameters used during production and to study their impact on final results. Studies will consider several products and coating types. Results obtained will be considered in dedicated-toexposed-parts R&D project and will be considered for future product characterization.
