Title of internship:

Rougness transfer model for packaging steels

Subject of the internship:

The purpose of the mission : Strip roughness for packaging steels is an important parameter not only for downstream line for coating process but also for our customers for forming processes. The main process actuator is the 2-stand temper mill that allows to reach the strip roughness. However, due to the limits of others targets (elongation, flatness…), the working point configuration is difficult. The idea is to predict the different process parameters (force, tension , lubricant..) that allow achieving the strip roughness target. The purpose of the internship is to develop and validate an analytical roughness transfer model to predict rapidly and accurately the process configuration of the temper mill. The mission : 1. Bibliography on roughness transfer models inside and outside Arcelormittal 2. Bibliography on roughness topography impact on coating stability/porosity 3. Participate to pilot trials (build a trials plan taking into account influent parameters on roughness transfer) 4. Develop analytical model on roughness transfer ; 5. Carry out the comparative study between the developed model, in-house model (Metalub/Metafor) and trials data; The environment: The internship will be carried out in the Downstream Process (DP) department of Process center at Maizières-lès-Metz. Inside the DP department, the student will work in an international environment involving around forty engineers and technicians.
